Shelby County is getting a lot of attention this year because of their 2025 superstar. Currently 4-4 on the season, the Rockets have faced three teams that made the Sweet 16 last season. Lets take a look at the players on Shelby County team.
Shelby County
Zakiyah Johnson-2025- Zakiyah is considered one of the state and nation’s top players. Johnson is currently averaging 21.8 points per game and 15.2 rebounds per game. Those numbers place her in the top 10 in the state. Zakiyah is a 5’11” versatile athletic player who is hard to handle. She has the ability to play every position on the floor. In her last two games she has played at the point guard spot. She displayed the ability to still put up numbers while getting her teammates involved. She has the ability to handle and break any press with her ball handling skills. Typically she has played around the basket but has been finding a lot of success on the perimeter this season. One of the top rebounders in the state, Zakiyah cleans up a lot misses. She has a quick second jump. Her leaping ability is by far more superior that most players older than her. She has developed a nice mid-range jumper. She is a tough defender and a fierce competitor. The more she develops the harder it will be for any one player to guard her. Currently she holds multiple high major D1 offers. Look for her stock to continue to rise on the national scene.
Jalynn Marshall-2021- Jalynn is tough all around point guard with skills. She is a really good on ball defender. Her defense helps her to keep the ball in front and not give up drives to the rim. Marshall has the ability to knock down shots on all three levels. She has a nice looking jumper. She is a vocal leader on the floor who is always directing traffic. Marshall is a converted off guard who is now playing the point so she has the ability to score. I would like to see her be more aggressive on the offensive end of the floor. She can play at the next level.
Brooklyn Patton-2022- Brooklyn is a tough guard with good speed. Her speed helps her play the passing lanes and play pressure on ball defense. She comes up with steals that help her score. Patton plays with a chip on shoulder. She doesn’t back down. On the offensive end of the floor, she can knock down the three when she is set. She is currently second on the team in scoring.
Jaci Woods-2023- Jaci is a long guard with good speed. She comes up with a lot of deflections and steals with her length. Woods has perfected the floater. When she drives that is her patent shot. She has the ability to make shots from deep. She has a decent handle. Jaci has potential to play at the next level. I would like to see her develop her jumper more. Also to get stronger, because she has a slim frame.
