Slowly, this area is growing into a hoops city, with gritty ballplayers who like to ball out when the lights come on. The girls who play ball in this area of the state, are slowly making a name for themselves. These gym rats have put the 931 on their backs, and are primed to make some noise as the district tournament approaches. They got it all up there in Clarksville. From your shifty type of guards to your girls who can bang inside, Clarksville is on the rise when it comes to women’s basketball.
Here is a list of some of the top ballplayers in the Clarksville area, who shine bright when the ball tips off.
Diamond Bryant Diamond Bryant 5'6" | PG Clarksville Academy | 2021 State TN (SG, Clarksville Academy)– This 5’8 senior eclipsed the 1,000 pts mark earlier in the year. She leads a Lady Cougars program that is having an impressive year. Diamond possesses poise with the basketball and she has great court vision. Her patience allows her to control the game. She is very quick and can get to the basketball. She has a fluid shot that she will use to shoot the 3 ball or the mid-range. Her game isn’t one-sided, as she is a ruthless defender that compliments her offensive game.
Ta’Mia Scott ( SF, Clarkville Northwest)– This 5’10 small forward is one heck of a presence. She utilizes her quickness efficiently, which causes mismatches on the offensive end. She can shoot the pull up 3 ball, get to the rim, and can pull up for the mid-range in transition. Her length allows her to control the boards as well as make the passing lanes look full on the defensive end. She is slowly making a name for herself throughout the recruiting circles.
Imari Berry Imari Berry 5'10" | SG Clarksville | 2024 State TN (Fr. Clarksville)– This 5’11 combo guard is making some noise around the country. Imari is super tough and is a dominant presence on the floor. She is a scoring machine. Imari has the ability to score at all three levels and uses her length to her advantage on the defensive end. She has many qualities such as a high basketball IQ, court visions, instincts, and a knack for the basketball, which all compliments her game. Look for this freshman to become a household name.
Sydney-James Desroches Sydney-James Desroches 5'11" | PF Rossview | 2022 State TN (Jr. Rossview)– The 6’0 forward is coming into her own this year. Sydney can handle the ball with pressure, start the transition after securing a rebound, and can shoot the pull up shot. She has nice footwork around the block as well as a great mid-range game. She will occasionally step out and shoot the 3 ball as well. When opponents play her, they feel her presence on both ends of the court. Look for her to continue on an upward trajectory throughout the course of the year.
Cierra Bowser (Jr. Northeast)– The 5’7 PG is a floor general for her ball club. Cierra can get to the rim and facilitate the ball with the best of them. She has a fluid shooting motion, that allows her to hit the spot up 3 or the mid-range shot. She is fierce on the defensive end and leads her team in steals.
Other Notable Standouts in the Clarksville area
Kayla Howell (Jr., Clarksville Northwest)– This 5’4 hooper is lightning quick. She uses her speed as a weapon on both ends of the floor. Kayla prides herself on defense, which turns into offensive opportunities. She has a nice mid-range shot and will occasionally shoot the 3 ball when the opportunity presents itself.
Shay Vaughn (So. Kenwood)– This 5’4 PG is shifty. She has a nice mid-range game and can also get to the bucket. Shay loves to defend, which translates to opportunities for layups on the offensive end. Look for her to make strides as she continues to play throughout the course of the year.
Sydney Weatherford (Sr. Clarksville)– The 5’10 forward has great footwork around the basket. She controls the boards and has a nice mid-range shot. She is a 3 sport standout, which signed to play softball at Evansville University.
Iyanna Curtis (So. Kenwood)– This 5’10 positionless player can do it all for her ball club. She can shoot the 3 ball at a high clip, get to the rim, shoot the mid-range, and then turn around to be a defensive threat. Iyanna uses her length well on the defensive end. This passionate player is a sparkplug for her club and looks to set the tone night in and night out.
Elijah Cobb (So. Northwest)– Emiyah uses her quickness on the defensive end. The 5’7 combo guard has a knack for anticipating and using her body to create multiple steals throughout the course of the game. She has the ability to get to the rim as well as shoot the deep ball.
Emani Collier (Jr. Rossview)– The 5’10 post player is very athletic. She has the ability to shoot the 3 ball, but is a force in the paint. She uses her length to create defensive stops, which leads to fast breaks for her ball club. Emani has great court vision and can facilitate the ball well to her teammates.
