Final: Clutch Rose 46 - Spokane Legacy Red 30 Clutch Rose locked horns with Spokane Legacy Red at the OAB Western Idaho February Showcase. Clutch fell to an early deficit, but thanks to some superb shooting they pulled out at the half with a considerable lead and would continue to hold on to it in the second half. Things started with a [player_tooltip player_id="158564" first="Zoe" last="Borter"] floater and free throws by Borter and Spear. [player_tooltip player_id="158547" first="Madison" last="Naro"] would steal it around half-court and flick a slick pass behind the back to a trailing [player_tooltip player_id="158567" first="Lainey" last="Spear"]. Two Spear free throws would follow. Borter would sink two free throws. Borter lay-up followed by a Sixta to [player_tooltip player_id="207833" first="Emily" last="Rice"] triple that would tie the affair at 17 a piece. Naro would slip past her defender for a lay-in. Naro to Sixta triple. Rice to Sixta triple. Spear board up and bucket. Naro spot up triple would find Clutch up 28-19 at halftime. Naro to [player_tooltip player_id="158515" first="Charlotte" last="Richman"] mid-range would start things off for Clutch Rose in the second half. Spear would slip past her defender again on her way to the rim. [player_tooltip player_id="158547" first="Madison" last="Naro"] would rebound the ball and find a streaking [player_tooltip player_id="207833" first="Emily" last="Rice"] down the court. [player_tooltip player_id="158564" first="Zoe" last="Borter"] would score at the rim off the inbound. Sixta would take her defender down the baseline. [player_tooltip player_id="158567" first="Lainey" last="Spear"] showed some superb footwork in a nice up and under at the rim. [player_tooltip player_id="158564" first="Zoe" last="Borter"] would put it behind her back on her way to the rim. Sixta baseline attack yet again. Clutch Rose would win this with considerable ease through their offensive efforts in a 46-30 victory. Stats: [player_tooltip player_id="158567" first="Lainey" last="Spear"]: 11 points, 7 rebounds [player_tooltip player_id="158544" first="Emma" last="Sixta"]: 10 points, 2 rebounds 1 assist [player_tooltip player_id="158547" first="Madison" last="Naro"]: 5 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal [player_tooltip player_id="158564" first="Zoe" last="Borter"]: 13 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal [player_tooltip player_id="158515" first="Charlotte" last="Richman"]: 2 points, 1 rebound [player_tooltip player_id="207833" first="Emily" last="Rice"]: 5 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assist [player_tooltip player_id="251706" first="Lucy" last="Allen"]: 3 rebounds, 1 assist Breakdown: Naro’s Sixth Sense [player_tooltip player_id="158547" first="Madison" last="Naro"] certainly has basketball genes in her heritage as her older sister Mary Kay Naro recently notched a Boise State single game record 16 assists for the Broncos. “Maddie” has instinctually great point guard skills - shown single handedly in her behind the back pass to Spear early in the first half. She is the traditional point guard who plays at a steady pace but more recently has shown the ability to let it go from deep at a moment’s notice. She is a crafty point guard who sets the table exceptionally well for others - as shown in her team high 5 assist total. Balanced Attack Clutch Rose had five players with five points or more and three individuals in double digits - indicative of their ability to score from top to bottom. [player_tooltip player_id="158567" first="Lainey" last="Spear"] once again showed her efficient ease at scoring, willfully making it to the rim and finishing once there. [player_tooltip player_id="158564" first="Zoe" last="Borter"] depicted her creative display of scoring, as she catches opponents off-kilter. Borter is a creative scorer who gets it done with both grit and innovativeness. [player_tooltip player_id="158544" first="Emma" last="Sixta"] sank two from five from deep as she also showed the ability to slash it baseline. [player_tooltip player_id="207833" first="Emily" last="Rice"] Perhaps the biggest surprise this weekend was Rice, who has shown consistency as a guard who can do it all. She can sink the open perimeter shot as well finishes in the paint well despite a crowded lane. She rebounds and defends with good effort and has a knack for making the extra pass as well as finding others in scoring position. Her 5 point, 5 rebound, 3 assist total was representative of her ability to affect the game in a multitude of ways.
