While St. Rose has shown she is a threat at all levels offensively she showed off a different side of her game in this one, scoring 15 points just from the free throw line. She has always been able to make tough baskets by evading contact but now she is looking for it which helped her get to a game high 26 points. The junior also chipped in with nine rebounds and 3 assists, if you didn’t know Madison St. Rose Madison St. Rose 5'10" | PG St. John Vianney | 2022 State #65 Nation NJ before this game you better know now.
nd Star: Katie Hill Katie Hill 6'0" | SF St. John Vianney | 2021 State NJ , St. John Vianney: The reason St. John Vianney is such a great team this year is because they can rely on either of their top guns, in this game they were both firing on all cylinders. Katie Hill Katie Hill 6'0" | SF St. John Vianney | 2021 State NJ finished he night with 22 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks, stuffing the stat sheet like she does every game. The senior has proven to be the most reliable player on the team and someone you can go to late in the game to get a basket. When Hill is in a zone like she has been all season she is near impossible to stop.
rd Star: Sara McShea, Paul VI: As a whole, Paul VI was up to the challenge of playing a state powerhouse, they kept things close until St. John Vianney turned on the jets in the fourth quarter. One of the reasons Paul VI was able to keep pace was because of the play of Sara McShea. The junior ended the night with 16 points and 9 rebounds, constantly fighting inside and making tough shots that made the opposition work a lot harder to pull away than first thought. One of the players that Paul VI leans on when in need of a big play, McShea continued to do exactly that. Look for much more of that throughout the year.
th Star: Janice Ashong, Paul VI: One of the things Paul VI did so well in this game was create second opportunities and stop their opponents from getting them by grabbing rebounds. Janice Ashong was the player that really stepped up in that regard, she finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Not always the first option on offense, Ashong works hard down low and constantly puts herself in good positions to make winning plays.
th Star: Hannah Hidalgo Hannah Hidalgo 5'7" | PG Paul VI | 2023 State NJ , Paul VI: The superstar of the Paul VI team, Hannah Hidalgo Hannah Hidalgo 5'7" | PG Paul VI | 2023 State NJ is usually able to exploit defenses pretty easily, today that wasn’t the case. St. John Vianney did their best to try and nullify Hidalgo’s game, while things were tougher for her she still found ways to leave her mark on the matchup. The sophomore ended the night with 14 points and 3 rebounds and had defenses constantly throwing double teams her way allowing her other teammates to get open opportunities. Even though Hidalgo didn’t have the most outstanding night statistically her game was still felt throughout.
