There were players that had outstanding individual games and led their teams to victories. We will look at some of the athletes that had dominating performances in the first day of Districts.
* This is not an all inclusive list. These are just some examples of the great play that happened all over the state last night.
Lauren DeWolf Lauren DeWolf CG Ann Arbor Pioneer | 2022 State MI (2022, CG, Ann Arbor Pioneer)
DeWolf was key in a 58-28 win over Ypsilanti. She scored 17 points and played excellent defense throughout the contest.
Karrington Gordon Karrington Gordon PF Lincoln Park | 2021 State MI (2021, PF, Lincoln Park)
Gordon was probably the Player of the Day in Michigan. Her Lincoln Park team won a hard fought battle with Allen Park. The game went to overtime with Gordon’s squad winning 65-57. She finished with 44 points, 17 rebounds, 9 steals, and 5 assists. Gordon’s 44 points set a new school record for points scored in a game.
Melanie Moore Melanie Moore C Madison Heights Bishop Foley | 2022 State MI (2022, C, Bishop Foley)
Moore is a top notch post prospect and last night, she showed why. Moore had 22 points in her team’s 72-13 win over Michigan Collegiate.
Hannah Outlaw Hannah Outlaw PF Constantine | 2021 State MI (2021, PF, Constantine)
Constantine defeated Vicksburg by a score of 58-43. Outlaw was dominating in the game, notching a double-double in points and rebounds. She finished with 20 points and 11 boards, all while controlling the paint and showing versatility.
Abby Schwartz (2021, CG, Pennfield) and Kaylee Glidden Kaylee Glidden 5'9" | SG Pennfield | 2023 State MI (2023, SG, Pennfield)
Schwartz and Glidden were instrumental in their team’s 39-36 win over Eaton Rapids. Schwartz had 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Glidden finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds. They provided scoring, defense, and rebounding throughout the game. They are a backcourt to watch in the next round.
Alecsis Smith Alecsis Smith 6'2" | C Bay City Central | 2022 State MI (2022, C, Bay City Central)
Smith exacted her revenge on ME. I had predicted Bay City Western in an earlier article. Miss Smith, I apologize. Her team won 58-52 and she dominated offensively, scoring 28 points.
Olivia Trivedi (2021, SF, Lakeshore)
The senior wing came up big in a 62-31 victory against Berrien Springs. She couldn’t be stopped when the ball was in her hands and she had a team high 16 points in the contest.
Caitlyn Walter (2022, CG, Ovid-Elsie)
The junior guard was key in her team’s 49-24 win over Durand. Walter scored 19 points and was efficient in doing so. She also played tough defense, pestering ball handlers on the perimeter.
Erin Young Erin Young PF Livonia Franklin | 2022 State MI (2022, PF, Livonia Franklin)
Young continued her excellent junior season in a 56-28 win against Garden City. She finished as the leading scorer with 18 points, scoring in a variety of ways.
