Day 2 also had some players that just went off and were added to my Top Performers article, Micayla Silas-5’9 SG (Unity Basketball 2023-1) and Shellie Zambie-5’7 G (Platinum Basketball 2023 Jones) Plano West HS put on some offensive shows.
A couple of freshmen Terrielle Clark-5’6 G (FBC Nightmares 2023-1) and Londyn Oliphant Londyn Oliphant 5'6" | PG Sachse | 2024 State TX -5’6 PG (Platinum Basketball 2023 Walker) proved the game starts at the 1 and all of these players are definitely among the standouts so let me add some more from that division
16U All-Tournament Team
Mckenzie Mathurin – 5’9 G (Oklahoma Swift 2023) 2025
Mathurin is one of those players I caught a couple of years ago that left a lasting impression, I knew she was a #D1Lock yet after watching her at the #DuelStateAllStar games, she showed me legitimate BCS type stuff, in middle school and with those type offers on the table, nothing she does from here on will surprise me yet she did because she not only can take over a game, she makes those around her better and when you’re able to do that, you go from good to great
Leeschelle Sohappy – 5’5 G (Unity Basketball 2023) 2024
Sohappy definitely made me smile when I saw her consistently playing the passing lane while I was scoping the game from another court so I moved closer for the second half and watching her attack the rim and finishing after contact as well as creating her shot under pressure and knock it down told me a lot. She applied pressure on the defensive end and created turnovers either from come up with steals, forcing the player to lose the ball out of bounds, or just understanding how to trap
Jenna Kendall-5’7 SG (Platinum Basketball Walker) 2023
Kendall was just unconscious when I caught her shooting the ball and I mean with hands in her face she dropped it from mid to long-range. I love seeing players that understand how to not only create their shots but when to do so and when you can score in the flow, that’s pretty big, especially with all of the talented players on her squad. Her range is somewhere north of the NBA line, the best bet is to guard her after she crosses the half-court line but she also saw the floor and made the right passes
Danielle Porter-6’1 PF (Houston Queens Elite 2023-1) 2023
Porter showed me something in every game I caught her and that was DESIRE and in this age, I love watching #THROWBACK type stuff, and seeing her BATTLE for everything off the rim, on the floor, or in the stands just took me back to another era yet she also finished countless times on putbacks, with players literally hanging on her. She does a good job attacking the basket from the wing, she even showed she could face the basket and score yet her effort on defense would have her on my All-Defensive team as well
Skyler Smith-5’6 PG (Platinum Basketball 2023 Alexander) 2024
Smith falls back into another era as well, I love heady point guards that actually think the game, and her poise is what initially stood out, as well as a little “SWAG” as she was VOCAL and understood how to control, the tempo yet she also showed she could push the ball and throw passes on the money for easy baskets. If that wasn’t enough, seeing her create her shot, under pressure and knock it down was the icing on the cake yet with her upside, trust me, the candles will be lit
With so many players that just stood out, stay tuned as I drop others
