The last semester for the Class of 2021 is starting to wind down, and with that said, the Spring rankings updates serve as our final look at the class as a whole. Our Top-250 is now home to 61 2-guard prospects, significantly bigger than the point guard group in this class. There are still several quality prospects who remain uncommitted at this time. There are athletes, scorers, shooters, and some nice combo guards who can run offense. Below is a look at those 61 prospects, as well as some added information and analysis on a handful of uncommitted girls from this position group. Surely between now and graduation, a few colleges will benefit from commitments by some of them.
Newcomers
Our Spring rankings update isn’t a time for new additions to the outgoing Senior class, and while we didn’t expand from 250 prospects, there were a trio of 2-guards added due to some openings on the list. Lydia Capaldi Lydia Capaldi 5'7" | SG La Lumiere | 2021 State IN of La Lumiere in LaPorte is a nice athlete. Formerly from just North of Detroit, she recently concluded her second season with the Lakers. She is a playmaker and scorer at all three levels. Jasmin Barker Jasmin Barker 5'7" | SG Calumet New Tech | 2021 State IN from Calumet New Tech is a new name to me altogether, but she had a nice career and is a versatile athlete who can score the ball. Maya Turner Maya Turner 5'4" | CG Ben Davis | 2021 State IN is a strong-for-her-size, tough-nosed, and athletic guard who does a little of everything well. She is best off the bounce, but she can knock down shots, and she’ll get after it defensively.
Top Uncommitted 2-Guards
1. Trinity Clinton Trinity Clinton 5'7" | SG Penn | 2021 State IN , Penn H.S. – Trinity will go down as one of the best basketball players to go through the Penn girls’ program. She is a strong, tough-nosed, high-motor kid who outworks her opponents most nights. She is a nice downhill driver who can get to the basket and finish through contact. Her perimeter shot and ball-handling skill have improved a great deal over the last couple of years, which allow her to be more dynamic as an all-around scorer. She is also an effortful defender who gets after it at that end of the floor.
2. Moira McGinley Moira McGinley 5'7" | SG Bishop Chatard | 2021 State IN , Bishop Chatard H.S. – Moira has always been a coach’s delight to watch, because there are kids with good motors, and then there are kids who run through walls. She is the latter. She has nice end-to-end speed, toughness, and she affects the game at both ends of the floor. Offensively, she really became a multilevel threat her Junior year of high school and started drawing the other team’s best defender in a face-guarding situation. Defensively, not only does she use her ability, but she anticipates well.
3. Pa’Shence Walker Pa’Shence Walker 5'8" | SG Martinsville | 2021 State IN , Martinsville H.S. – Pa’Shence is a talented athlete with length, wiry strength, and a really nice smoothness to her game. She glides around the floor almost effortlessly at times, and she makes a ton of plays at both ends of the court because of her ability. She has always been a nice driver/finisher, but this year she started to facilitate a great deal more. I’ve also always been impressed with her ability defensively. She gets her hands on a lot of passes, and she will sit in a stance and lock up ball-handlers.
4. Zayda Hatfield Zayda Hatfield 5'8" | CG Terre Haute South Vigo | 2021 State IN , Terre Haute South Vigo H.S. – Zayda had a really nice bounce-back year after injuring her knee late during the 2019-2020 season and missing all Summer/Fall in 2020. She is a long, wiry, and fairly quick athlete who simply makes plays. She can score it at all three levels, she has good ball skill and creativity, and she seems to play with a nice motor. She has the skillset to act as a point guard at times, but I think she’s programmed more as a scorer. I also think she has the potential to be a quality defender.
5. Joslynn Spears Joslynn Spears 5'7" | CG Pike | 2021 State IN , Pike H.S. – Joslynn is another really nice athlete in this group, and I think she’s somewhat under-recruited because she’s kind of stuck between positions. She has ball skill and can play more of a traditional point guard role, but I think that limits her abilities. She is much better as an attacker off the bounce, and she can get into the lane with ease and finish. She plays with a nice motor, she is a willing rebounder, and she can be a high-level on-ball defender as well. I just really like her versatility.
Additional Uncommitted 2-Guards Who Stand Out
Maddie Barnes Maddie Barnes 5'8" | SG Speedway | 2021 State IN , Speedway H.S. – Maddie is a fairly strong, physical wing guard with a very balanced skillset. She has ball skill and can play almost a point forward role, but she has also been a really nice rhythm throughout her career. She rebounds her position well, plus she is a good anticipatory defender who can collect several steals at times. She’s still flying a little under the radar.
Sayla McIntosh Sayla McIntosh 5'5" | CG Muncie Central | 2021 State IN , Muncie Central H.S. – Sayla isn’t very big, but she has a lot of upside/potential. She is extremely long at her height, fluid, smooth, and shifty at times. She has a good handle, but she uses it mostly to create space for her shot instead of breaking down defenders and attacking. Her mechanics are spot-on, and she shoots a solid percentage outside when she’s able to get her feet set.
Hannah Sisk Hannah Sisk 5'5" | CG Princeton Community | 2021 State IN , Princeton Community H.S. – Hannah is a tough-nosed, feisty, break-you-down offensive weapon. She uses the dribble to both create space and to attack the basket. She can score it in bunches at times from all three levels, plus she plays with a motor. She is definitely more of a scorer than a traditional point guard, but she has good ball skill. I just really like her grit, plus her quickness/shiftiness.
K’La Talley K’La Talley 5'6" | SG Warren Central | 2021 State IN , Warren Central H.S. – K’La is a strong, physical athlete with good North/South speed. She is more of a driver/attacker than anything, but she can hit an open rhythm jumper. She uses her physicality to get to the basket and finish through contact, but she also has a nice mid-range game. Her ability to sit down and defend multiple types of players is also an attractive quality as a prospect.
Daylynn Thornton Daylynn Thornton 5'8" | CG McCutcheon | 2021 State IN , McCutcheon H.S. – Daylynn is one of the better uncommitted prospects in this class, and I think she could be a really nice fit somewhere because of her versatility. She is strong and can be physical, but she also has good all-around skill and can play with finesse. She can act as a ’3’, knock down shots at all levels as a ’2’, or run offense, create, and facilitate as a point guard.
