This is the feature on the fourth, in a series of many, AAU programs in the state of Iowa. This AAU grassroots program is another program that has some amazing history and tradition, and has seen a ton of success through the years on both the girls and boys side. They have produced a wide range of talented players who are familiar names that have had a strong impact on the game of basketball here in the state of Iowa through the years. A handful of these Martin Brothers alumni have gone on to ball at all college levels, and many of them have thrived at the NCAA DI level. A select few have also made it to the professional ranks either in the WNBA, NBA G-League, or NBA. This goes to show you they are all about business, their high competitive nature to win, their ability to recognize talent and ability, and what kind of standards they set for all of the athletes.
This elite AAU program is the Martin Brothers program. I will be focusing in on and discussing the girls side of the program, the elite Lady Martin Brothers program. The Lady Martin Brothers organization has seen a remarkable amount of growth and development as a whole unit over the past couple of years. Yes, they have produced former notable standouts like Stacy Frese (ISU, WNBA) and Shelly Sheetz (Colorado) just to name a couple; but they have become a much more well-known overall AAU program on the girls side in recent years at the national level. They have girls teams from 5th grade through 11th grade (pre-senior year). The Lady Martin Bros. are a sponsored Under Armour team, which establishes some terrific opportunities for the ballers to showcase their skills. They travel to some prestigious tournaments around the country that get their players noticed and assist them in getting that opportunity to play against other high-level players and top-notch talent. This May, they will be heading out to Council Bluffs for the Prep Hoops Live event that is run by Prep Girls Hoops.
Willie Barney, the Girls Program Director, has done a wonderful job of making this AAU program one of the top orgnaizations in the state of Iowa. They have several players in the program from many cities around the state of Iowa, which proves the outstanding reputation and regard they have not only on the court, but off the court as well. Willie wants each player to perform to the best of their ability; and he makes it a priority to make each player better, improve their overall skill set, and to do it all with passion. He also has fourteen other tremendous coaches that lead beside him. They all are great leaders and are definitely following in his footsteps. “The Martin Bros coaching staff will assist athletes in developing to their full potential. They will focus on training athletes by analyzing their performances, instructing in relevant skills and provide encouragement. Our coaches will create the right conditions for learning to happen. We expect that our players will be highly motivated.”
The Lady Martin Bros. also has a SportsRecruits website that features all of the team rosters, player info, as well as game highlights of each player. This creates the necessary exposure for all of the players, and gets them noticed by college coaches around the country. The coaches not only get to watch the players display their talent and ability by watching video highlights; but they also can see each player’s given position, height, weight, hometown, high school, etc. to keep them on their radar to see their progression, as well as to make decisions of when and where they want to watch a prospect play in tournaments.
All of the Lady Martin Bros. teams be on quite the excursion this 2021 AAU season, as they will be making their way out to states all across the country over the course of these four months. All players will get that awesome opportunity of showcasing their talent and ability to college coaches, and will be competing against other great teams. They will be making their presence known, and will be surely bringing back home some hardware. A couple of female players to watch this 2021 AAU season within the program as we get going here into May with this spring/summer circuit are Allie Meadows Allie Meadows 5'8" | PG Central DeWitt | 2022 State IA (G, 2022), Aree Beckmann Aree Beckmann 5'8" | SG Xavier | 2022 State IA (G, 2022), and Delaynie Luneckas Delaynie Luneckas 6'2" | PF West Branch | 2022 State IA (F/C, 2022). All three of these players are 2022 graduates, and will be playing in their final AAU season. There is no doubt they will be coming out with a bang at every tournament, and will be striving for recognition from high-level colleges at each event.
Expect this Lady Martin Bros. AAU program to continue to make a splash and evolve in years to come. There is no question they will keep making a mark at every tournament, and will become an even more recognized AAU program around the whole country.
