For the most part, the event mostly featured high school teams from South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia along with a couple of travel teams including Confidence Cougars.
Savannah Porterfield Savannah Porterfield 5'9" | SF Byrnes | 2022 State SC – Byrnes HS (Duncan) – Savannah, Clinton, Columbia, Greenville, Charleston, Augusta, Myrtle Beach – it does not matter. Put Porterfield on the court and be sure that she will make plays to help her team win. And lots of those plays can come in the form of Porterfield draining shots from behind the arc. In addition to a smooth shot from 3, Porterfield knows how to take care of the ball, preventing turnovers and also gives the Rebels rebounding help. She will also attack the basket through defenders and will be very active on defense as Porterfield knows how to steal the ball.
Jada Jones Jada Jones 5'6" | SG Rock Hill | 2022 State SC – Rock Hill HS – Whether she is on the basketball court or the soccer pitch, one can be sure that Jones is sure to provide plenty of speed and agility to her team. It does not matter whether she wears the No. 12 or the No. 3 as she has recently during this offseason, Jones will give it all for her team. She can set up her team in the half court offense and can bolster her team’s scoring attack either by way of the 3-point shot or via driving to the basket and possibly drawing contact en route to the foul line. Jones can also be active on defense and constantly has her hands up to make things more difficult for ball carriers. She will also make timely and efficient passes to set up her teammates to score.
Gracie Wilson Gracie Wilson 5'6" | SG Rock Hill | 2022 State SC – Rock Hill HS – Prep Girls Hoops got reacquainted with Wilson and Kennan Orr’s Rock Hill Bearcats at last week’s team camp at Wofford College. In one of the Bearcats’ games at Presbyterian vs. Augusta Christian, Wilson was feeling confident in her ability to make shots from 3-point range – because she was making them with regularity. At one point early in the game, it appeared as if Wilson was outscoring Augusta Christian by herself because of her accuracy from deep. Wilson has proven herself to not only be an important piece to Rock Hill’s offensive puzzle as she managed to get it done on defense, including with steals.
Maia Brown Maia Brown 5'6" | PG Dutch Fork | 2022 State SC – Dutch Fork HS – Dutch Fork had itself a 2020-21 where it was one of the sixteen teams that earned a berth to the 5A state playoffs. Brown proved herself to be a reason for the Foxes’ success. She plays the guard position in the role of a classic floor general. Brown knows how to get to the basket. At one point in a game the Foxes played at Presbyterian opposite Charlotte-based Vance, Brown made a heads up play to come from behind a Cougars ball carrier in an attempt to steal the ball. She displays impressive play on both offense and defense and never gives up on a play. Brown provides lockdown defense, can be crafty with her passes, can rebound and can get to the free throw line.
Liberty Whack Liberty Whack 5'7" | PF East Clarendon | 2022 State SC – East Clarendon HS (Turbeville) – While a certain top-ranked teammate from the class of 2022 may get the lion’s share of attention with the Wolverines, Whack is not to be overlooked by any means. Every team could use players that can effectively play the three or four and she has shown that it is something she can do over the years. Whack has proven herself to not only be a potent scorer, but can steal the ball and reject shots. As efficient as a rebounder as she is, that in tandem with her scoring make her a double-double possibility on a game-by-game basis.
Terranique Polite – Summerville HS – This key piece of the winning puzzle with the Green Wave leaves opposing teams green with envy. She can get very active on the defensive end of the floor and this includes her ability to grab rebounds. She is also a threat to block shots as well as intercept passes and create more possessions for Summerville. Offensively, she will take long range as well as mid range shots and has the ability to get her own rebounds in case of a miss. As much as she can score, she will also distribute and coaches love when they have players on their teams that know when to do either/or. She is sure to once again have a prominent role on a Green Wave team that, according to Davis, will field five freshmen this upcoming season.
