Continue ReadingI use the phrase “the magic number” a lot, those who read and absorb remember what it means, and basically it’s players 6’0 and above because that is a profile many college coaches look for, in fact, I’ve had calls over the years asking if I knew of any after school has started so this is and will always be a hot commodity and there were some talented players at or over that magic number at the All Eyez On Me Individual Showcase I covered at a camp that’s put on by myself and Austin Elite which is right before their Tyrone Johnson Showcase #TJShowcase
Jada West Jada West 6'0" | C Brennan | 2022 State TX -6’0 P (Brennan HS) SA Lady Hoops
West continues to elevate her game, especially on the inside where she showed she could be a force on both ends of the floor. With a college-ready frame to go with her size, she is consistently finishing with players literally hanging on her and with her improved hands and footwork, that has just taken her offense to another level yet she also battles for rebounds, on both of the court and the putbacks as well as the outlet is nice
Lexi Alexander Lexi Alexander 5'10" | PF Cedar Ridge | 2022 State TX -6’1 PF (Cedar Ridge HS) Austin Elite RFW
Alexander continues to raise the eyebrows of college coaches after yet another breakout year in front of me however her outstanding opening in July has created plenty of buzzes yet all you have to do is listen, I’m not a novice at this, and everything I said about her as a freshman has come to pass, which she also does well. She attacks the basket powerfully, finishes after contact but her mid to long-range is a definite treat and keeps the defender honest but she also defends and rebounds
Kaila Hamilton-6’1 P (Hendrickson HS) Austin Elite RFW
Hamilton has just pounded her way into being in the mix and watching her versatility on offense has been nice all season. She scores with either hand yet she also faces the basket for buckets and her going after the ball off the rim is an added touch that you just can’t teach but the desire doesn’t stop there, not the fire as she also goes after loose balls on the floor or in the stands
Ashlee Seymore-6’1 PF (Clear Brook HS)
Seymore showed me even more during the Individual Showcase as her agility definitely stood out. Yeah, I knew she rebounded, defended, and blocked shots but she also showed she could face the basket and drop the 10-15 footer as well as take the defender off the dribble but seeing her play the passing lane just did it for me

Abbie Boutilier Abbie Boutilier 6'9" | PF Flower Mound | 2023 State TX -6’9 P (Flower Mound HS) Pro Skills
Boutilier is 6’9, that’s not a typo and she’s showing she’s more than a typical post as she continues to elevate her game every time I catch her. From just being a back to the basket player that rebounded, she is now attacking the basket from outside the paint as well as shooting the short jumper yet her strength and power enable her to finish with ease and her ceiling has no roof
Kalika Gross-6’0 P (Waco Robinson HS) Waco Lady Panthers
Gross just enjoys battling on the inside and she will not be outworked but she has shown improved “hands and footwork: which enable her to finish strongly, with either hand and her defense, not only inside the paint but outside has improved but she also runs the floor, on both ends and makes good passes
Fiona Hasse Fiona Hasse 6'0" | PF Lake Highlands | 2023 TX -6’0 PF (Lake Highlands HS)
Hasse was a definite pleasant surprise as she just did a variety of things like face the basket and score, the midrange pull-up is nice, as well as attack off the dribble, she created her shot under pressure for both yet she also rebounded and played solid defense and her upside is pretty good as well
Lauren Stevens-6’0 PF (George Ranch HS)
Stevens showed the pull-up jumper almost immediately and it kept falling from a variety of angles but she also understands how to take the defender to the basket, with either hand and finish, with either hand. She rebounds, she defends, she ain’t done either, nice upside
