Continue ReadingI opened my Adidas Gauntlet coverage yesterday and caught an eyeful, that’s nothing new especially when you have an eye for talent, and although what I say sometimes comes off wrong, I don’t care because I always have and will keep it real in an arena where that always doesn’t occur so “the magic number” players, those at 6’0 or better, just kept grabbing me every time I looked up so here we go
Tatum Boettjer Tatum Boettjer 6'2" | PF Derby | 2022 State TX -6’3 SG (Derby HS) Team Lex Breeze 2022
Boettjer just amazes me watching her do some of the things she does at her size, first of all, she creates her shot nicely, under pressure, and can put it on the floor when she wants yet she doesn’t have to because of her range, mid to long combined with her size as she gets it off whenever she wants but she also has good hands and footwork to score in the paint, with either hand and passes very well but when you add her solid defense as well as rebounding on both ends…
Calyn Davis-6’0 SG (Lubbock Cooper HS) Team Lex Breeze 2022
Davis falls into that “long and athletic” category I often speak of and call the base on where I start evaluating certain profiles so when I saw her attacking the rim and finishing after contact included, I knew that was a good sign but when I saw her elevate on that pull-up jumper, that just set it off because her release is smooth, fluid and quick but the mid to long-range wasn’t all, she played the passing lane and when you factor in she’s a 2023, oh my
Dyamon Griggs-6’0 PF (Texas Supergirls 17U Gold)
Griggs made her first Tip Sheet a few years ago when I caught her playing with the Waco Lady Panther pre-HS and I said I loved her UPSIDE because she didn’t mind punishment, either giving or taking and of course, everything I said has played out, there is no me, yet she has toned up and shown some extra things, it’s always good being versatile, as she attacks the basket from the wing and finishes with contact plus she showed she could knock down the jumper
Khiara Flugence-6’0 PF (SA Hoops Elite Gold-Kearney) Boerne Samuel V Champion HS
Flugence is one of those “you won’t outwork me” types of players which earns her a special hashtag #THROWBACK because she doesn’t mind battling against taller players, in fact, she showed she could score on the inside with a variety of moves against those who are taller and she understands how to get positioning to rebound, against taller players and this includes both ends of the court but her defense, either in the paint or stepping out showing she could play “on the ball” defense as well, all stood out
Kora Huff-6’3 C (Team Lex Supreme) Midlothian Heritage HS
Huff gave me a quick yet solid view of what she brings to the table and the talented 2023 understands how to use her size as no one can “HUFF and puff” to move her around. She finished showing some nice moves around the basket, yes after contact ad she also finished on putbacks yet her running the floor on both ends, rebounding on both ends and nice agility to defend inside the paint all stood out
