Continue ReadingWe are getting closer to the time these Class of 2022 kids will be lacing up their basketball shoes on the AAU scene for the final time as we approach the middle to end of July. This can be a time of sadness and discomfort, as many of these players have spent most of their lives playing AAU basketball; dating all the way back to when they were in elementary or middle school. All kinds of emotions and feelings arise; however, it’s crucial to remember the journey, memories, the wins, even the losses, and all of the fun you experienced along the way. You had the opportunity to meet and hoop with players from a wide range of schools; as well as developing bonds and friendships that will last a lifetime. These senior-to-be kids are not done with their basketball careers and have a ton of years left to play this wonderful game. There is no question some unfinished business here. Let’s head back over to five kids in this 2022 class who still have time here to leave it all on the floor and commit to a college of their choice. Wham!
Note: I am also going to start off this article by covering Brooklyn Meyer Brooklyn Meyer 6'2" | PF West Lyon | 2022 State #74 Nation IA , a 2022 grad, who has verbally committed to South Dakota State University.

SDSU is getting a phenomenal player in Miss Meyer, as this is a kid you do not miss when you look at a court she is playing on. Not only does she have top-notch physicality, she also has high-level skill and talent with loads of strength. A lot can be achieved on the court with instincts, a high IQ, ability, and athleticism. She fits this mold perfectly. I see her as a stretch 4 player, as she can step outside the 3-point line and knock them down. She definitely has the shooting skill to raise her number of total 3’s made, as she has a pure stroke. She can play out on the perimeter or down low with the same skillset. Displays a great handle. She is best utilizing her athletic ability getting to the rim and finishing some tricky drives in the lane. A very crafty, dynamic, and exciting player to watch on the offensive end. Has that innate, natural talent to do rare things in both her capability to drive to the basket; as well as finishing underneath with unique post moves. It is not easy for any defender, whether that is in the Siouxland Conference, or the Summit League when she gets to college; to guard this kid. You have to be very careful, clever, and intent on how to guard her; as she can beat you in so many ways. Her size does not help this cause, as she can establish so much commotion on both ends of the floor. She finished off this recent high school season close to a double-double with 16 (PPG) and just below 10 (RPG) a game. I love seeing her explosive ability to block shots. She is a dominant player that will surely be making a name for herself as a Jackrabbit. Keep tabs on this kid throughout her collegiate career.

Laphina Campbell Laphina Campbell 5'2" | PG Des Moines North | 2022 State IA , 5’3, PG, Des Moines North, 2022
An absolute front stage, lead performer, and first in line of the cast of performers on the basketball floor. A very underrated player who brings the glamor to the court; specifically noting her offensive prowess. In my top ten most talented kids in this class, Laphina can flat out hoop. Any defender guarding her is up for a serious challenge; as her quick-jet, lightning speed results in an easy two, an easy three, or even an AND 1. Her thrifty ball handling skills allow her to juke out opponents and throw them off, as she will leave you in the dust finishing a nifty drive in the lane. I love her ability to show off a talented spin move in the paint creating easy shots for herself. Can shoot the 15-footer off the bounce. Has deep range on 3-point shot. Can deliver clever assists (dimes) to fellow teammates. Despite her 5’3 height frame, she has the athleticism to mix it up with the bigs and rack up the rebounds. A kid with a great feel for the game. A one of a kind floor general. Elite upside.

Macy Emgarten Macy Emgarten 5'11" | SF Exira-EHK | 2022 State IA , 5’11, W, Exira-EHK, 2022
59 is all I have to say about this kid. Macy took over the 3-point line this recent high school season and hit nearly 60 in 25 games. Good length and size. With that shooting ability, anything is possible with how many she’s getting per night. Could literally tally up that scoreboard with no problems. A good inside-out player. Tremendous basketball IQ and knowledge of the game. Can rebound the ball as well. Can get her long arms on drives and shots to total up some blocks. A lethal player.

Makinley Levin Makinley Levin 5'9" | SF Solon | 2022 State IA , 5’9, SG, Solon, 2022
Older sister of Callie. Displays a lot of the same skill and high-level feel for the game. A fluid sharpshooter. Can stretch the defense with deep range. Went 35-42 from the charity stripe this recent high school season to equal an outstanding 83%. An athletic player. Her scoring average will be soaring this next season as she caps off her high school career. Definitely should be more aggressive on offensive end, as she has the talent to put up big scoring numbers. A great presence on the defensive end. Can steal and rebound. Dominant upside.

Trinidee Moore Trinidee Moore 5'7" | PG Waverly-Shell Rock | 2022 State IA , 5’7, PG, Waverly-Shell Rock, 2022
Has elite quickness and can create unbelievable opportunities on both ends of the floor with this God-given blessing. Also has great basketball skill and talent. Can shoot the 3 ball with a pure stroke, can get to the cup and finish on the drive, and can pass the ball with some nice assists (dimes) to fellow teammates. Brings a ton of energy and ambition to the court. These quick hands and feet result in steal after steal after steal. A kid who thrives in the up-tempo, transition game. Will look to take over a much bigger scoring role next season seeing that scoring average drastically move higher. Enormous upside.

Kora Katcher Kora Katcher 5'7" | SG Center Point-Urbana | 2022 State IA , 5’7, SG, Center Point-Urbana, 2022
Younger sister of Adrianna, who is going to be a sophomore at Southern Illinois University this upcoming season. Is a little shorter than her; however, they both have the same high basketball IQ. Is a knock down shooter and can snipe the 3 ball with a nice stroke. Has a good handle and can finish at the rim. I love her tenacity on the defensive end to pick up the steals and get the easy bunnies. Can read the ball in passing lanes like it’s her job. Great savvy. Marvelous overall skillset.
