Jene Carter Championship Tip Sheet #TJShowcase
In this article:
I know many of you probably don’t know that the “big boys” Blue Star, ASGR, Peach State, even Hoopgurlz at the time were not covering Texas and the surrounding states back in the day, all you have to do is look up players and Google them with those service attached, simple huh, yet we are in a #PostLiterateSociety where people choose to listen to FOOLS who don’t know what they’re talking about which is why I started covering Texas around 2010 and the countless players I’ve helped directly or even indirectly receive scholarships is in the thousands but anyway, Under The Radar, Talent Is Everywhere and even more importantly “it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against” should stick in your heads so with that being said, I decided to give the Championship game in the top division of the Tyrone Johnson Showcase it’s on Tip Sheet, for free viewing and here ya go, an abundance of NEXT LEVEL PLAYERS
Austin Elite RFW
2022
Lexi Alexander Lexi Alexander 5'10" | PF Cedar Ridge | 2022 State TX -6’0 F (Cedar Ridge HS)
Alexander has legitimized her #D1Lock as she punishes her way for rebounds on both ends and overpowers defenders for putbacks as well as finishes after the attack yet she can also shoot the mid to long-range
Jaida Gomez-5’3 G (Pflugerville HS)
Gomez did a good job at not only creating her shot to knock down the mid to long-range but she also understood how to get hers “in the flow”
Jamyria Ramsey Jamyria Ramsey 5'6" | PG Weiss | 2022 State TX -5’4 PG (Weiss HS)
Ramsey has SWB and that’s “speed with the ball” and her first step is devastating in the half-court, in the open court you can almost forget about yet she sees the flor going full speed and makes on the money passes but she also can score, mid to long range
Alex Neimeth Alex Neimeth 5'9" | CG Cedar Ridge | 2022 State TX -5’8 CG (Cedar Ridge HS)
Neimeth has earned the nickname clutch, she showed it 2 years ago in the Katy Tournament in the Houston area yet she’s shown in a variety of area codes, and her acrobatic finishes, her long and midrange shooting her passing and defending have all shot up
Erika Suarez-5’7 SG (Hendrickson HS)
Suarez has just been a shooting machine in every event I’ve caught her in. The mid to long, the stop and pop in transition, attacking the rim and finishing with either hand, she is just finding ways to put the ball in the basket
Aniyah Burke-5’6 PG (Vista Ridge HS)
Burke was smoking from long-range all tournament long, yet her CHAMPIONSHIP game was just awesome as she created her shot under tight pressure and just knocked them down with hands in her face. Her defense was solid as well
Kaila Hamilton-6’1 P (Hendrickson HS)
Hamilton is “long and athletic” guess what, that’s the base because it’s one of the profiles college coaches look at, and watching her play the passing lane, grab rebounds and defend, not to leave score, was nice and will raise some eyebrows as she’s over the magic number
Jayda Andrews-5’7 F (Cedar Ridge HS)
Andrews has filled in the blanks all season long as she just does things that may not show up on a stat sheet but she also comes up with big plays that help turn the momentum around
2023
Avari Berry-5’6 PG (Pflugerville HS)
Berry has always been “poised under pressure” and I noticed her in the 7th grade dropping NBA range three pointers. Yeah, she still has range but she also is heady, understands how to run a team, and has great court vision while throwing passes on the money for assists
Maci Quiller-5’10 W (Hendrickson HS)
Quiller is “long and athletic” she applies “on ball” defensive pressure full-court yet she also defends in the half-court. She scores off the dribble, finishes strong, and rebounds on both ends
Skyrise Edmond
2022
Mercedes Mancha Mercedes Mancha 5'7" | CG Alvin | 2022 State TX
Mancha is heady, plays within herself which means she understands the game, and doesn’t force anything except for defenders to guard her once she crosses halfcourt because she’s one of the best long ball shooters in the state and can score off the dribble
Maurdaisha Powell Maurdaisha Powell 5'10" | SF Dulles | 2022 State TX
Powell has turned into not only one of the best scorers off the dribble but one of the best shot blockers, in the state and she’s long and athletic, glides to the basket, and finishes off-balance yet she also scores attacking and taking the pull-up jumper
Brooklin BROWN Brooklin BROWN 5'9" | SG Shadow Creek | 2022 State TX
Brown was called one of the states most underrated players a year ago by me yet they know who she is now and rightfully so as she elevates on her mid to long-range jumper as well as when she attacks against taller players, she also rebounds over taller players and defends well
Kenna Gibson Kenna Gibson 5'5" | CG Clear Springs | 2022 State TX
Gibson falls into the unlimited range category and watching her mannerisms while setting up defenders tells me it’s coming so yeah, she too is one of the best long ball shooters in Texas but she also can run the one with solid ball-handling and court vision
Ja’Nyla Kennedy Ja’Nyla Kennedy 5'8" | PF North Shore | 2022 State TX
Kennedy came back from an injury with a vengeance as she picked up from where she left off. Her college-ready frame with her college-ready game spells trouble for defenders as she can be overpowering inside the paint, on both ends
R’Mani Taylor R’Mani Taylor 5'7" | PG Shadow Creek | 2022 State TX
Taylor was probably tired of me telling the story about me calling her a #D1Lock in the 5th grade while she was dribbling in street clothes but then again, maybe not because I love telling it and I love watching her smoothness on the court. The no-look passes or just the blistering passes through traffic, she understands how to create for herself and her teammates and with her range, attacking and finishing with good body control
Aryelle Stevens
Stevens will be added to the Top 100 simple because she has earned the hashtag #BEAST and watching her score with players literally hanging on her, I can’t make this stuff up, with either hand was enough for me to add her but she also #BATTLES for everything off of the rim and she’s showing the turnaround jumper inside the paint and scoring facing the basket
