(Ponte Vedra ) is one of the most gifted athletes on the First Coast and she likely will be on the Varsity roster for the Ponte Vedra Sharks this coming high school season. Usry plays with a motor that doesn’t turn off until the end of the game. She plays an aggressive style of defense and doesn’t shy away from contact. If anything, she initiates contact and “enjoys” it. On offense Usry is a slasher and plays with the same aggression that she does on defense. She is quick off the dribble and usually finishes with explosion off of a jump- stop. She can hit the mid-range jumper consistently and on occasion she will mix in a few 3’s.
Brianna Thomas (2025) is 6’1 ” and plays like a high school student already. She has great footwork in the paint and uses the skills set to get baskets. Thomas does a great job of rebounding. She has the ability to run the floor and finish on the break. Thomas can defend the 3, 4 and 5 positions. She passes the ball well from the post and creates scoring opportunities for her teammates.
Alanna Tatum (Mandarin Middle School 2026) meets the criteria of a can’t miss prospect. She has athleticism that jumps off the page. In the open court she is dynamic. Tatum has the ability to outrun defenders to the basket, even when they have the angle on her. She has on- ball defensive skills that are already on the high school level. Tatum plays the passing lanes well and takes advantage of mediocre ball handlers. On offense, she has an exceptional mid range game and is growing comfortable from behind the arc.
A month ago these players were playing on their middle school teams. In addition to playing in the Future Stars event, these players will be playing with 2024s in the Run for the Roses ( July 5 -8, 2021) and Battle in the Boro (July 10-12, 2021).
