Although I didn’t get to watch every team, I was still treated to brilliant performances by teams and individuals from a variety of age groups.
With that in mind, here are some of the best bigs from the tournament:
Audrey Brewer | 2022 | 6’0” Power Forward/Center | West Texas Shockers 17U | Stamford HS – Brewer utilized pass and shot fakes beautifully on Tuesday. The Stamford post was elusive and decisive in the paint. Her up-and-under moves were excellent and resulted in tons of buckets. She finished through contact as well and was solid from the foul line.
Bailey Henderson | 2023 | 5’10” Power Forward | Lady Stangs Black | Van Alstyne HS – Henderson is a skilled enough shooter to play on the wing. However, I liked her best at the four spot. She possesses excellent footwork and maneuvers well down low. She spun off defenders and showcased some solid below-the-rim moves. The stretch-four also contributed on the defensive glass.
Doniya Hall | 2024 | 5’11” Power Forward/Center | UHE 15U Elite | Plano East HS – Apologies in advance for the rhyme, but Hall can do it all! She is a skilled big with so many offensive tools at her disposal. The Plano East forward hit shots off the dribble and used her soft touch to score at will on the block and near the basket. All that said, my favorite part about her Wednesday performance was her rebounding. She refused to be boxed out by others and continuously battled for boards at both ends of the floor.
Kerbie Cash | 2024 | 6’0” Power Forward/Small Forward | UHE 15U Elite | Wylie East HS – Cash has a great combination of size and skill. She was fantastic when attacking close outs and scoring off the dribble, knocking down some deep twos as well as getting all the way to the cup for layups. The Wylie East Forward is quicker than she appears and is a good enough shot-maker to space the floor, but has the height to operate comfortably in the post. I also liked the way she fought on the offensive glass until she finally got her attempts to fall.
Olivia Pennington | 2024 | 5’11” Power Forward | Texas U 15U National | Prosper HS – Pennington displayed soft hands and utilized some crafty finishes to score at the basket. She stretched out to the mid-range area and drilled spot-up shots, was a crafty scorer when posting up defenders, and made timely cuts to the basket. The 2024 prospect played with some physicality too, bulldozing her way to the hoop on numerous occasions.
