June is a big month for rankings throughout the Prep Girls Hoops Network, and for the Class of 2022, they start a lot of “lasts”…their last Summer of grassroots basketball, their last high school season, their last run at conference and state tournament titles, and their last opportunities to make impressions on college coaches who have been recruiting them. On the whole, the 2022 list expanded from 200 prospects to 225 prospects, and there was some movement throughout the entirety of the list. As it relates to the 2022 power forward group, there are 49 ladies who have acquired a spot within the Top-225, and four of them are new to the list on PGH Indiana. With a full Spring season “in the books” for the first time since 2019, it helped to provide more clarity as to who the better prospects are throughout the state. Below is a look at those 49 prospects, as well as some added information and analysis of the newcomers, plus a handful of additional girls who have stood out since our last rankings update in March.
Newcomers
As it relates to the Class of 2022, a 25-player expansion is part of the emphasis with regards to our Summer rankings. As we expanded from 200 to 225 prospects, four young ladies at the power forward position are new to the rankings list this time around. They are highlighted below, and if you know them, I think you’d agree they belong here.
Kate Breeden Kate Breeden 5'10" | PF Evansville Mater Dei | 2022 State IN , Evansville Mater Dei H.S. – Kate is an intelligent, skillful, face-up ’4’ who plays with a really good motor. She has some length, solid all-around athleticism, but it’s her willingness to play tough and battle inside, plus her skill around the perimeter and ability to knock down open jump-shots, that make her a versatile forward who small colleges with half-court, motion-like systems should be interested in.
Alaysia Divine Alaysia Divine 5'11" | PF Ben Davis | 2022 IN , Ben Davis H.S. – I saw Alaysia for the first time last Summer, but when I saw her again this Spring, she looked stronger, much more assertive, and all-around more polished skillfully. She is extremely long, fairly fluid as an athlete, and she plays with a nice motor. She’s starting to finish more around the basket, and she is making her face-up game more consistent. I also think she’s a nice pursuing rebounder.
Mary Porter Mary Porter 6'1" | PF Warren Central | 2022 State IN , Warren Central H.S. – Mary just popped up on my radar in April at an Indianapolis tourney. She helped the Noblesville program this past year, but she has recently transferred to Warren Central. She is incredibly long, fairly fluid, and somewhat bouncy. She has some face-up skill to near the perimeter, and she is very intriguing overall as a prospect, she just needs to finish growing and gaining strength.
Morgan Wilson Morgan Wilson 5'11" | PF Tecumseh | 2022 State IN , Tecumseh H.S. – Morgan has seen a little Varsity action all three years at Tecumseh, but she was much more impactful this year as a Junior. She has nice length, wiry strength, and she’s fairly bouncy and athletic in all directions. She plays with a solid motor, flashes skill at all three levels, but ultimately I think she’s a potential matchup problem in the mid-post because of her ability to shoot or attack and finish.
Keep an eye on…
Jasmine Anderson Jasmine Anderson 6'1" | PF Carroll (Fort Wayne) | 2022 State IN , Carroll H.S. (Fort Wayne) – Jasmine is a really nice prospect who I feel like is starting to play much more consistently each time out. She has good height and length, she’s a fluidly athletic forward, and she is a nice mid-post player. She doesn’t seem as comfortable playing with her back to the basket, but she can attack or shoot it in the mid-post, and she’s starting to flash some perimeter skill as well.
Mia Catey Mia Catey 5'11" | PF Mississinewa | 2022 State IN , Mississinewa H.S. – I enjoy Mia’s game, and I think she’s under the radar as far as small colleges are concerned. I really think she’s a nice “next level” prospect. She has an athletically strong frame, she has some bounce in her step, and she has continually worked on her ball skill and jumper. She pushes the ball in transition, has a nice mid-range pull-up, plus she’s tough and will battle with anyone inside.
Gabrielle Hoover Gabrielle Hoover 6'2" | PF Penn | 2022 IN , Penn H.S. – Gabi put together an outstanding Spring, as she just looked much stronger, more fluid, and all-around more confident and consistent. She still needs to finish gaining strength, but she’s trying to play with more physicality, plus she also has good body control and the ability to finish at odd angles around defenders. She has some touch to the mid-post, and she plays with a nice motor.
DeMaria King DeMaria King 5'11" | PF Charlestown | 2022 State IN , Charlestown H.S. – DeMaria is another front-liner who looked improved throughout the Spring. She was always more of an athlete who affected the game defensively and on the boards in the past. Now, though, she is starting to show a much-improved skillset, as she’s attacking the basket and finishing controlled, through contact, and she has added a nice 15-foot jumper in the mid-post and short-corners.
Morgan Ostrowski Morgan Ostrowski 6'1" | PF Garrett | 2022 State IN , Garrett H.S. – Last Summer, due to the pandemic, Morgan was able to play grassroots ball, and now she has a taste for multiple sports. After spending the Spring elsewhere, she will play this month, and she already has a lot of colleges interested in her for hoops. She is tall, long, and very bouncy. She is much more physical than she looks, and she has really nice touch and skill inside of 17-feet.
