Having already taken a look at some of the best players regionally and the top players on our list, we now head to talking about some positional rankings.
In this article, we’ll be talking about the best combo guards in the state, and one of them, Veyoni Davis Veyoni Davis 5'8" | CG Moorestown | 2024 PA of Eastern Regional, was discussed in a recent article, which you can find on our Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey website.
The top combo guard we rated in the state is Madison Schiller Madison Schiller 5'8" | CG Ramapo | 2022 State NJ of Ramapo and New Heights NYC, a fantastic player with a massive upside who is one of the best players in North Jersey without a question.
Schiller is currently ranked 13th overall in our rankings and for good reason as she posted a double-double average this fall for the first time in her high school career this fall and is consistently a near 20.0 PPG scorer overall.
She’s not just a pure scorer either as Schiller has developed a strong passing game and is also a great perimeter defender, averaging over four steals a game as a junior. Expect much more of the same and then some with Schiller this season.
From Schiller we go to Harmony Marquez Harmony Marquez 5'8" | CG Rutherford | 2022 State NJ of Rutherford, who also posted double-double averages for the first time in her high school career in the spring. Marquez has steadily improved into a consistent, all-around player who has quite the balanced game overall.
She’s a great perimeter shooter, consistently and confidently shooting three-pointers, which allows her to add more dimensions to her game like midrange shooting and fantastic-dribble drive penetration into the lane.
Where Marquez sets herself apart is her shot-blocking ability as she averaged over a block a game for the first time this spring as well and that bodes well for someone who can guard both on the perimeter and in the middle.
We’ll be seeing plenty more from Marquez this season, so keep an eye out to see what will be another fantastic season out of her, now her senior season at Rutherford.
The last combo guard we’ll be discussing in this article is Jaylene Ferrer Jaylene Ferrer 5'7" | CG Elmwood Park | 2022 State NJ , who is just outside the top-20 in our list, but has a great opportunity to move up high in the rankings.
She put up all-conference numbers as a junior for Elmwood Park, showing off a fantastic three-point shot that is most effective when Ferrer is moving off-ball. She moves really well around the court and puts herself often in positions to score, getting really open looks on the floor.
Along with her offensive prowess, her defense is really strong and she plays an aggressive style of defense that really works for her. Ferrer likes to play up-tempo and with a lot of energy, and this season will solidify her as a big-time playmaker.
We’ll have more content out for you for this prospect list and for future ones coming out, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more with Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey.
