Brooklin BROWN Brooklin BROWN 5'9" | SG Shadow Creek | 2022 State TXBrown isn’t flashy, she’s long and athletic and just gets the job done and her ability to create her shot in tight situations has always impressed me. She can shoot off the dribble, or attack the rim and score gliding to the basket, all of that was on full display at the event yet so was the “stop and pop” jumper in transition. She showed the mid-range early, from a variety of spots and later the deep 3 yet seeing her handle the ball after playing passing lane had me stand up a few times because of her acrobatic finishes. She did a good job of rebounding as well as defending
Heaven Hayden Heaven Hayden 5'10" | SG Lincoln | 2022 State TXHayden is a scoring machine, she simply finds ways to put the ball in the basket, and seeing her battling on the offensive boards against taller players to score off of putbacks over the years should give you a visual. She’s explosive off the dribble and attacks the basket fiercely yet her body control and strength enable her to finish after contact as she was an “and one” waiting to happen at the event. The pull-up jumper is also hard to handle, she elevates and releases it quickly from mid to long-range yet she also showed good court vision and made some solid passes through traffic for assists
Deja Lumsden Deja Lumsden 5'11" | PF Timber Creek | 2022 State TXLumsden has that “long and athletic” tag with her name as well, she does quite a few things to keep the defense honest. Yeah, she attacks the rim from, well everywhere and she continues to show that contact doesn’t matter yet that pull-up jumper is smooth, she can score off of it in transition, or she can just create it under pressure and drop it with a hand in her face yet she also can shoot it fading away, did that a few times at the event, she also rebounded well on both ends and scored going coast to coast a few times but her defense continues to be solid
Desiree Marshall-Penny-5’5 PG (Tulsa OK)
Penny continues to show she can drop dimes with the best of them yet I saw that earlier in the season as she gave me one of those lasting first impressions so observing her zig-zagging through the defense and throwing no-looks on the money was pleasantly pleasing although not new to me. She has a very good first step, well in the open court, she has extra gear but she understands how to control the tempo, run with her if it’s there, she can get you the ball, well she can also score herself but she also can run the set. The mid to long-range was shown, so was her defense
Kelliah ‘KJ’ Walker Kelliah ‘KJ’ Walker 5'8" | PG Keller-Timber Creek | 2022 State TXWalker took me back to what I wanna say that I saw when she was in elementary school and I just remember this wide-eyed kid absorbing everything yet her being able to do things instinctively told me what was coming when it clicked. Fast forward to now, she’s coming off an injury yet you’d never know as just toyed with defenders showing the midrange a few times then the HEZ to catch them off balance and score off the dribble. I sent her a subliminal message, telepathic wasn’t working and she smiled and dropped back to back long balls
