We’re going to head up to Central and North Jersey to check out the players in this article, No. 20-22 on our list.
No. 20: Harmony Marquez Harmony Marquez 5'8" | CG Rutherford | 2022 State NJ – 5-8 CG, Rutherford
Marquez has made strides this summer with NJ Freedom and that, combined with her play on the court so far during her high school career, has made her a really interesting prospect to watch out for this season.
She had arguably the best season of her young career to date in the spring, posting double-double averages for the first time in her career.
Her 13.5 PPG and 11.1 RPG are both career-highs, along with over a block a game and three steals a game on defense. Those are big-time statistics and she’s poised for a big season with Rutherford as an all-around playmaker and game-changer.
No. 21: Jaylene Ferrer Jaylene Ferrer 5'7" | CG Elmwood Park | 2022 State NJ – 5-7 CG, Elmwood Park
Ferrer was a scoring machine as a junior for Elmwood Park and hopes to continue that into her senior season. She put up career high scoring numbers, averaging 18.1 PPG, a steady increase over the past three seasons.
Her growth on the court has shown tremendously and she’s been rounding out her game well on offense, especially as a three-point shooter. She doesn’t need to rely on the three, but her off-ball movement allows her to get open looks so easily.
That will play as Elmwood Park is a team that will be competing for a conference title this season. Having a multi-dimensional player in Ferrer only heightens their chances of getting to that point.
No. 22: Christy Brennan Christy Brennan 5'5" | PG Hopatcong | 2022 State NJ – 5-5 PG, Hopatcong
There was no one even close to as dominant as Brennan was on this Hopatcong team last season as she averaged over 20.0 PPG and carried the Chiefs to an 8-6 record in the spring.
This is a player that has already made moves over her high school career and is only getting better over time. Twenty-point scorers don’t come around that often, and doing this in her junior year is a really good sign for her senior campaign.
Brennan would benefit from shooting the three more often as that will add another level to her game, but she shoots the ball well from the perimeter and has enough agility to weave her way through the lane and finish strong. Expect another big season out of the guard.
We’ll be continuing our journey through the best prospects in the state, so keep it with Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey for some great content coming up.
