With games set to tip off this week, this is a great time to preview some of the best prospects from District 6 of 6A Region I. I’ve seen a lot of basketball played by the teams in this district, and am looking forward to what they have in store for 2021!
Plano East will enter the year as the favorite after going undefeated in conference play a year ago. Aside from that, this should be a very competitive district, with teams like Hebron, Plano Senior, and Lewisville looking to challenge the Lady Panthers for a district title.
With all that in mind, here are some individuals to keep an eye on this season:
Kayla Cooper Kayla Cooper 5'9" | SG Plano East | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 5’9” Combo Guard | Plano East HS – Cooper’s court vision and passing ability really takes her game to another level. She can be absolutely surgical as a facilitator, and she has the weapons around her to do a lot of damage that way. The 2022 guard can also get it done herself from all three levels. She is truly one of the most dynamic players in the DFW area.
Donavia Hall | 2022 | 5’11” Shooting Guard/Small Forward | Plano East HS – Hall seemingly ended up scoring in double figures every time a saw her last season. She is assertive when driving to the basket and great about getting herself to the foul line. Her three-point shooting was excellent as well.
Paris Bradley Paris Bradley 5'10" | SF Hebron | 2024 State TX | 2024 | 5’10” Combo Guard | Hebron HS – Bradley is another combo guard with a knack for setting her teammates up. She is such a natural playmaker and deadly accurate when delivering passes. Furthermore, the Hebron guard is incredibly smooth when penetrating off the dribble and a knock down shooter from deep.
Salese Blow Salese Blow 5'10" | SF Vines | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 5’10” Point Guard | Plano Senior HS – Blow is a tremendous athlete with good length and a limitless motor at both ends of the floor. Her agility and strength when attacking the basket off the dribble are both exceptional. The effort and ability she displays on defense is impressive too. She can guard all three perimeter positions without any issues.
Jules LaMendola Jules LaMendola 5'10" | SF Coppell | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 6’1” Small Forward | Coppell HS – LaMendola is a point forward who can do a little bit of everything on offense. She was always improving and adding to her game each time I saw her in the Winter and Summer. The Coppell junior is a great decision maker, as well as sneaky physical, showing that she isn’t afraid to take some bumps and bruises in addition to handing some out.
India Howard | 2022 | 6’0” Power Forward | Coppell HS – Howard is a dynamic forward who can attack off the dribble from the wing or battle it out in the post. The 6-foot senior is strong and mobile, making her a lot to deal with whenever she gets downhill. She is also a good defender in the paint and a productive rebounder.
Monica Marsh Monica Marsh 5'6" | CG Plano West | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 5’6” Shooting Guard | Plano West HS – Marsh might be the most prolific scorer in the district, averaging 18 points per game last season. She is a mid-range assassin who can get to her spots and convert at a super high clip. The junior guard shoots it well from behind the arc too, and can use her handle and quickness to get around defenders and to the basket. This is one of those players who is going to get hers on a nightly basis.
Abbie Boutilier Abbie Boutilier 6'9" | PF Flower Mound | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 6’9” Power Forward/Center | Flower Mound HS – Boutilier’s height alone makes her a threat at the rim, but she possesses skill as well. She keeps the ball up high in the post and has a soft touch down low. The Flower Mound junior can also stretch out to the free throw line and drain some mid-range attempts. Additionally, her rebounding and rim protection are terrific.
Deucee Reed Deucee Reed 5'5" | PG Lewisville | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 5’6” Point Guard | Lewisville HS – Reed is a crafty finisher with superb body control when getting to the basket off the dribble. She handles the ball well and is great about shifting gears and changing speeds to keep defenders off balanced. Beyond that, the junior floor general is a solid distributor and a capable shooter from behind the arc.
Mya Dotson | 2023 | 5’9” Shooting Guard/Small Forward | Lewisville HS – Dotson is a force on the defensive end. She has active hands and fantastic lateral quickness, staying in front of opponents with regularity. She plays hard, sprints back in transition to defend, and is so good at utilizing her length to bother opposing ball handlers. With an improving offensive game, Dotson could be the X factor for Lewisville this season.
