With 8 of the top 10 prospects in the class of 2022 having made their decision and 12 of the top 20, we dive deeper into ranked players 11-20 and their decisions of where to play collegiately.
Fatima Diakhate Fatima Diakhate 6'6" | C Montverde Academy | 2022 State FL (Montverde Academy / Essence) was one of the most recent members of the class of 2022 to make her college decision. Ranked # 16 in the Prep Girls Hoop Florida rankings, the 6’5 center is one of the most intriguing college prospects due to her size and potential ability to impact a game in the paint. Having watched her progress over the past few seasons, her growth is impressive. Her coordination and ability to get up and down the court has improved dramatically and she has shown the ability to score in the paint with her back to the basket. Diakhate choose to verbally commit to in state University of Central Florida. At UCF, look for Head Coach Abe Henderson to continue Diakhate strength and conditioning training as well as have her spend significant time with post coach Isoken Uzamere. It will likely be 1-2 years before Diakhate is an active contributor to the UCF Knights but should these areas continue to progress, ultimately Diakhate could be a huge impact and help UCF make the leap from the 1st and 2nd round of the NCAA tournament to potentially making it to the sweet and beyond.
Enjulina Gonzalez Enjulina Gonzalez 5'9" | CG Miami Christian | 2022 State FL (Miami Christian / Team Knight) verbally committed to Mercer University this month. The # 18 ranked player in the Prep Girls Hoop Florida rankings has been one of the state’s most under recruited players. She helped lead Miami Christian to an FHSAA 2A State Championship this past season averaging 12.9 points per game and really hitting the exposure circuit for the first time this past summer with Team Knight on the Adidas 3 Stripes league. She is an athletic, super skilled, 5’9 guard / wing, who can drop buckets.
Maddie Millar Maddie Millar 5'9" | CG Bishop Kenny | 2022 State FL (Bishop Kenny / Alabama Southern Starzz) is ranked # 19 in the Prep Girls Hoop Florida rankings and chose local in state University of North Florida this summer over a number of mid major and BCS college suitors. She ultimately chose UNF because Head Coach Darrick Gibbs had recruited Millar since middle school. Stressing the importance having her support system close by and what a big deal it is to play in front of a home crowd, Millar will get a chance to team up with her Bishop Kenny Head Coach Charlsea Clark, who recently accepted an assistant coaching position with UCF. Millar still has her Senior season and will try and bring a 4A state championship to Bishop Kenny after leading the Knights to a 21-10 record averaging 11.9 points per game before falling to eventual state champion Lake Highland Prep.
Speaking of state champion Lake Highland Prep, Stefanie Ingram Stefanie Ingram 5'7" | CG Lake Highland | 2022 State FL (Lake Highland Prep / Hoop Dreams Elite) helped lead LHP to a state championship and a # 1 national ranking. Ingram, a 5’8 combo guard was the heart and sole of the squad, handling the ball, guarding the teams opposing point guard and consistently setting the energy level for her teammates. Look for her to bring that skillset, passion, energy, and leadership to UCF where she verbally committed to earlier this year. Ranked # 12 in the Prep Girls Hoops Florida rankings, UCF has 3 of the state’s top 20 prospects heading to Orlando next season in the class of 2022 where Ingram will be joined by # 16 Fatima Diakhate Fatima Diakhate 6'6" | C Montverde Academy | 2022 State FL and # 6 Savannah Henderson Savannah Henderson 6'1" | SF Timber Creek | 2022 State #46 Nation FL , making for an impressive recruiting haul for the UCF Knights.
So who will be next? Will it be 6’2 Forward Paris Gaines Paris Gaines 6'3" | PF Jones | 2022 State FL (Jones HS) who is ranked # 11? Or will it be a member of the powerful Blanche Ely squad # 13 Michiyah Simmons Michiyah Simmons 5'8" | PG Blanche Ely | 2022 State FL , # 14 Mya Kone Mya Kone 6'1" | SF Blanche Ely | 2022 State FL , or # 20 Zaria Blake Zaria Blake 6'0" | SF Blanche Ely | 2022 State FL . Central Pointe Academy was one of last season’s surprise teams. Their point guard # 15 Silkiari Vazquez Silkiari Vazquez 5'5" | PG Central Pointe Academy | 2022 State FL still remains undecided as well as # 17 Joey Delancy Joey Delancy 5'8" | CG American Heritage | 2022 State FL who helped bring American Heritage Plantation home a state championship last season and had a solid summer on the EYBL circuit for the Miami Suns. The class of 2022 in Florida is very talented and we will continue to follow where these talented players land.
