My final look at the teams in the Dayton area will focus on the Division 1 teams. Seven teams to focus on plus a few who could enter the conversation as being among the best. Much more coverage heading into the high school season begins November 1 as the PGH staff begins looking at various conferences around Ohio.
Bellbrook
A well coached Golden Eagles team moved up to D1 last season, and looks to compete for another league title. They return the majority of their team from last year including 2022's Dreann Pryce, a 5-8 guard, along with [player_tooltip player_id="270607" first="Kelley" last="Griffin"], a 5-8 2023 who does an excellent job distributing the ball with great court vision. Another 2023 to watch is 6-0 Ashley Frantz who can defend multiple positions on the floor and can hurt you inside or out. A pair of 2024s to watch are [player_tooltip player_id="218300" first="Alayna" last="Meyer"] and Taylor Scohy.
Centerville
This could be an interesting season for the Elks. Word from multiple sources is [player_tooltip player_id="32611" first="Cotie" last="McMahon"] may not play her senior year to prepare for the next level of play. But the Elks do have a lot of talent back including 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="93541" first="Kendal" last="George"], a sharpshooter who continues to improve her overall game (pictured left). She is an elite defender and will be called on for more responsibilities this season. Both 2023 Anna Grim and 2024 Emily Grim have improved their game and will provide quality minutes and production this season. Molly Scott is a 6-0 2022 who I expect to control the paint with a strong post game. Quinn Watercutter is a 5-9 2022 who can defend and plays with solid effort.
Fairmont
Coach Jeremy Finn looks to bring the Firebirds back to the top of the GWOC and they have a solid nucleus of players back to do so. 5-9 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="269825" first="Mallory" last="Hullinger"] is a complete player with good range and a high basketball IQ. She is headed to Notre Dame College. A guard who I look for big things from is 5-8 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="327726" first="Mckenzie" last="Roark"], who had a good summer (pictured right). She controls the game and possesses good handles and court savvy. Serena Baker is a 5-11 2023 who looks to contribute at the forward spot. A newcomer to the program is 5-9 2022 Peyton Wells, who moved over from Springboro. She will add to a solid group of returnees.
Miamisburg
Coming off a very good year in 2021, the Vikings don't look to let up anytime soon. Back is 2022 shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id="269821" first="Anna" last="Long"], (pictured left) as the Division One recruit can beat you in multiple ways. Able to score from the perimeter or get by her defender and score at the rim. She will get help from 2022 Addison Frymoyer, a multidimensional threat along with a 2024 who caught the eye of a lot of people last season [player_tooltip player_id="217340" first="Alley" last="Haas"].
Sidney
This is a team that will catch a lot of attention this season with a lot of talent back. [player_tooltip player_id="93557" first="Allie" last="Stockton"] (feature photo above) is a 5-10 2023 who is a physical guard with an excellent perimeter game, and can play through contact. Point guard [player_tooltip player_id="216090" first="Lexee" last="Brewer"] is a 5-6 2023 who is a playmaker with great court vision and a solid lockdown defender. Newcomer [player_tooltip player_id="216106" first="Regan" last="Clark"] is a 6-0 move in from Jackson Center who can play in the post and defend her position, or she will step out and can be a mismatch problem. 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="217326" first="Kiara" last="Hudgins"] is a sophomore who plays above her years.
Tecumseh
The Arrows look to defend the CBC title, a championship they shared with Jonathan Alder last season. Tecumseh brings back the top point guard in the conference with 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="269824" first="Mae" last="Mastin"], who continues to show her next-level skills. A group of talented 2023s will be ready for the challenge including 5-10 [player_tooltip player_id="216006" first="Gabby" last="Russell"], 5-3 Emma Garber and 5-3 Madi Moore. All of the juniors expect to play a big role this season.
Vandalia Butler
Could this be their year in the MVL Miami Division? They return a pair of outstanding prospects in 6-0 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="212902" first="Evan" last="Neely"] and 5-9 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="93536" first="Sami" last="Bardonaro"]. Neely is a very strong rebounder and is a difference maker on the boards. She also defends well against opposing posts. Bardonaro (pictured right) is one of the top players in the Dayton area, and is ranked in the top 25 PGH Class of 2023 rankings. They lost some talented players but they have a solid pipeline of players coming through the program, including some talented incoming freshman players. They will contend with Tipp and Troy for divisional supremacy.
Other teams to keep an eye on: Beavercreek, Franklin, Springboro, Troy, Xenia, Wayne.
