So many teams are gearing up for the first full season in two years and a hopeful state championship run. Us here at Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey are just as excited for the start of the season.
Our prospect rankings and watch lists for the season have been released and in this article, we’ll be inching closer and closer to finishing up our 2023 prospect list. Here are the No. 43-45 junior prospects this season as ranked by our PGH NJ team.
No. 43: Ava Naszimento Ava Naszimento 6'1" | C Immaculate Heart | 2023 State NJ – 6-1 C, Immaculate Heart
Naszimento is an interesting player to watch as she has a lot of raw talent and untapped potential that we saw during the spring. She is expected to be a starter for Immaculate Heart after playing all 13 games last season for them, averaging 4.7 PPG.
The numbers will come in time as we saw with the jump in production and playing time from her freshman year to her sophomore year. What we’re focusing on most with Naszimento is how she’ll be able to utilize and maximize her height while playing.
As a 6-1 forward, she’s got a large wingspan and she very much uses her height to her advantage. Hopefully this season, we’ll be able to see an even more impressive forward who can man the middle and dominate opponents on both sides of the ball.
No. 44: Daniella Peschetti Daniella Peschetti 5'5" | PG Secaucus | 2023 State NJ – 5-5 PG, Secaucus
Peschetti’s most impressive stats this season were her assists and steals, as we saw in her freshman year just how dominant of a scorer she can be. Her 20-point performance against Cresskill on Feb. 10 in a 60-55 win was her best of the season.
In that game, Peschetti also recorded five assists and three steals. She had eight games of five or more assists on the season and she recorded three or more steals in all but one game in the spring. Overall, she averaged 11.9 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 4.9 APG and 4.1 SPG last season.
Peschetti is a multi-faceted guard with a lot to still prove and show on the floor, but she’s made her presence known and felt in a big way for Secaucus. This winter will be another breakout season for her.
No. 45: Alexa Lora Alexa Lora 5'5" | SG Ramapo | 2023 State NJ – 5-5 SG, Ramapo
Lora had an impressive sophomore season for Ramapo, setting career highs in scoring, rebounding and steals while remaining a consistent shooter beyond the arc.
She averaged 6.4 PPG, 1.7 RPG, 1.2 APG and 1.5 SPG this season and was a steady starter for the Raiders, who ran the table in the Big North, finishing the season a perfect 15-0.
Two starting seniors graduated this spring for Ramapo, which opens the door for Lora to be that much more of a factor and a force on this team this season. She made steady progress from her freshman to her sophomore year, but we’re expecting a big season out of her this winter. The pieces are aligning well.
