This season those teams have most of their team back for another year. With the younger talent base in the conference, the next few seasons should be competitive at the top. These are some players who may be some of the best in the Woodland conference this season.
Allison Hampel Allison Hampel 6'0" | PF Greenfield | 2023 State WI -6’0 F-’23-Greenfield: There’s no better player to start with than the returning player of the year. After a sophomore season where Hampel averaged 16.5 points and 12 rebounds, Hampel still has some room to improve. Granted, not many players will have averaged two and a half blocks and steals, but the thing she can do is expand her game. What we know right now is Hampel dominates the paint on both ends of the floor. We don’t know if she can step out and be a pick and pop player as well. She doesn’t need to do this to be a prospect for the next level, but it’s something that could force coaches to take notice of her.
Arianna Smith Arianna Smith 6'0" | PF Shorewood | 2023 State WI -6’0 F-’23-Shorewood: Smith is the only returning player who outscored Hampel a season ago. There isn’t much information on this forward, but I have to highlight her following her sophomore season. Last season Smith put up 17 points and nine and a half rebounds for her Shorewood team. Next season she will look to improve individually and help her team win some more games. But, keep an eye on this unheralded forward.
Mia Johnson Mia Johnson 5'6" | PG South Milwaukee | 2022 State WI -5’7 G-’22-South Milwaukee: One of the best players in the conference going into her senior season. Johnson played on a South Milwaukee team that was outed last season by Franklin in the regionals. Johnson played well a season ago, scoring 15 points and contributing to rebounding and defense as well. Her senior season will prove who she can be at the next level if she wants to play at the next level.
Jillian Landgraf-5’9 G-’23-Greenfield: Landgraf was one of the most secure guards in the conference a season ago. She hardly ever turned the ball over while having a lot of responsibility on a talented Greenfield team. Landgraf is a talented guard with good size and skill. She still has a lot to prove due to her not having the best offensive season. Keep an eye on Landgraf if her shooting improves this season.
