Continue ReadingI had to go to my cheat sheet, TABC, to just play Devil’s Advocate with my staff, aka, voices in my head tied to my petabyte of memory not to be confused with the pettiness and politics but I’m still playing “what if” and the thing that just grabs me is that the two best teams in Texas UIL 6A may not only be in the same region, Region 2 but the same district, which is 11and the Duncanville Pantherettes have been overly impressive in the two fall league shootouts I’ve witnessed, the last, they looked playoff-ready so if anyone has a shot at Desoto, they definitely do and here’s why
2022
Kiersten Johnson Kiersten Johnson 6'3" | C Duncanville | 2022 State TX -6’3 PF/C
Johnson elevated her game to another stratosphere and as she will be announcing where she’s heading next week, you can’t play weak trying to guard her because inside the paint, with her length and versatility, she’s hard to handle and what makes matters even more difficult is the mid to long-range has been clicking early
Maya Linton Maya Linton 6'1" | PF Duncanville | 2022 State TX -5’11 PF
Linton is just one of those players that fill in so many blanks as she shows she’s going to be close to a double-double every game, she rebounds on both ends, scores off putbacks, off the dribble as well as from outside but she plays the passing lane very well and she defends, very well
Alicia Marquez-5’5 G
Marquez was a surprise for me and she showed she could be serviceable at both the 1 and 2 yet she scored off the jumper as well as off the dribble and more importantly, handled the ball under pressure and saw the floor
2023
Tristen Taylor Tristen Taylor 5'4" | PG Duncanville | 2023 State TX -5’6 PG
Taylor is just on a different level than her already #D1Lock that she has shown since entering high school and it comes from her “poise on the court” as she understands how to make those around her better but she also understands how to blow by defenders for baskets as well as drop the mid to long-range
Victoria Flores-5’7 SG
Flores was erroneously omitted from PGH Top 100, hey I called her a #D1Lock in the 7th grade yet she got injured, clubs weren’t turning in rosters, etc, so I missed her, that will be resolved on the next update as she updates her “nightmare to defend” status with her ability to not only create the mid to long under pressure but drop the stop and pop un transition
Breniya Arnold-5’9 SF
Arnold will add more power in the paint as well as solid rebounding on both ends but her finishes after contact are, well just highlight-worthy plus she does a good job of not only rebounding but defending. Factor in she can face the basket and score as well as man-up, baseline to baseline
2024
Tajanae Gooden-5’10 SG
Gooden also was erroneously omitted yet when you can score as she can, it definitely will be resolved in a big way because her “you can’t stop me” mindset is something you couldn’t teach when I saw her in the 6th grade and it’s only been solidified as she elevates powerfully off the dribble to finish or off the ground for the jumper
2025
Kiersten Russell-5’9 SF
Russell was also a pleasant surprise and watching her “get after it” on the inside told me a lot, so did her strong finishes which will come in handy as they have lineups galore to throw at teams. Her defense was definitely an eye-catcher as well, love her upside
Kenidi Glover Kenidi Glover 6'0" | PF Duncanville | 2025 State TX -5’10 PF
Glover literally scores with players hanging on her and although she isn’t at “the magic number” of 6’0, she plays taller and her “mental toughness” is second to none as she rebounds on both ends, scored off putbacks with ease as well as off the dribble and even faced the basket but b battling her for rebounds is, well a battle and she won’t back down against anyone
Kaylinn Kemp Kaylinn Kemp 5'9" | CG Duncanville | 2025 State TX -5’8 CG
Kemp is “smooth as silk” and scores at times what appears to be effortlessly yet she works hard on both ends, plays the passing lane, and defends “on the ball” yet seeing her slice to the basket and make acrobatic shots can be attributed to her very good body control and I’ll drop the mic on her jumper, “smooth as silk”
