There is tremendous talent in the class of 2023. A range of heights, positions, skills, and college offers- the conversations are endless. We watched these athletes thrive during their sophomore seasons- some listed on the previous rankings, others listed as “Watch List” and some not at all and now here they are leading the pack at the top of the Prep Girls Hoops Class of 2023 rankings.
As we’ve mentioned before, rankings are always difficult as each time we release the rankings there is a period where we receive numerous comments and questions. Most of the time it’s trying to figure out how a prospect is ranked “too low” in someone’s eyes, how we “missed” someone, or why another prospect is ranked higher. Each concern is just as important as the next, however, I would hate for the shine to go away from the athletes who EARNED a spot on the list. We are here to talk about them and the hard work they each put in to be recognized on our platform.
Simply put if you have concerns- please check out Mason Asher’s in-depth process of how we run rankings here at Prep Girls Hoops.
Now back to the bread and butter, RANKINGS! Let’s introduce the Top 10!
1. Kamorea “KK” Arnold | 5’9 PG | Germantown | All Iowa Attack
Twitter | 2020-2021 HS season highlights.
KK is as tough as it gets, a walking bucket. We haven’t seen anything like her in Wisconsin since Arike Ogunbowale. She is an athletic lead-guard who effortlessly scores the basketball. She is explosive in transition and finishes so well coast-to-coast. A high motor with elite court vision- KK finds her teammates open and uses her IQ to make a game for herself. She pushes the tempo and attacks well from behind the perimeter. She is just scratching the surface of how crafty she can be handling the ball.
As a sophomore, she averaged 23 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals per game. She led Germantown to a 29-1 record and the Division 1 state championship. Scored a career-high 41 points in a 77-74 win over DSHA on December 4th.
Arnold has released her Top 12 as North Carolina, Duke, Ohio State, Florida, University of Kentucky, Marquette, UConn, Wisconsin, Baylor, South Carolina, Louisville, and Notre Dame.
2. Grace Grocholski Grace Grocholski 5'10" | SF Kettle Moraine | 2023 State WI | 5’11 W | Kettle Moraine | Wisconsin Lakers
Grocholski is such a unique prospect who is going to thrive at the next level. She is incredibly versatile and dominates the game from the inside and out. Her length and skill in handling the ball make her such a difficult matchup. Her ability to operate away from the basket with composure and fluidity is impressive. She can consistently hit jump shots and take the ball to the rack. Her awareness to find space for crashing the boards and entry passes sets her apart from my other prospects her size. She will always put up points. She knows how to get her shot off against nearly anyone, and she just consistently puts herself in spots to produce.
Grocholski was named Conference Player of the Year and All-State after her sophomore season.
Grocholski has verbally committed to play in the Pac 12 at Arizona State.
3. Avree Antony Avree Antony 5'10" | SG Sun Prarie | 2023 State WI | 5’10 CG | Sun Prairie | Let It Rain
Antony continues to prove why she should be ranked at the top of her class! She’s a bucket, she’s fun to watch, she gives 110% on both ends and gets the job done. A coach’s kid who puts in the time to perfect her craft- the sky’s the limit for Antony. Which explains why the offers from Division 1 programs continue to roll in! Antony is a highly competitive guard whom rises to the occasion. She possesses great scoring ability due to her quick release off the dribble. She’s vastly improved from three, and her quick trigger should allow her to pull from range out of the pick-and-roll or size-ups at the college level. Antony will always have an advantage from her quick first step, which she uses well to get downhill from the catch. She finishes near the rim softly with a variety of lays and floaters.
Antony currently holds offers from UW Green Bay, Valpo, Northern Illinois, Nebraska Omaha, Oakland, IUPUI, Illinois State, De Paul, North Dakota, Kansas City, St.Louis, St.Thomas, Evansville, Northern Iowa, and Milwaukee.
4. Macy Donarski Macy Donarski 5'7" | PG Aquinas | 2023 State WI | 5’9 PG | Aquinas | Flight Elite
Donarski is a smart guard that plays with incredible balance and poise. She uses her understanding of the game to produce. She is savvy with the ball and plays intentionally on the court- not much of what she does is wasted energy. She has textbook form with a high release and repeatable and smooth motion. Donarski is an effective shooter off the catch and the dribble. She’s a clutch performer that hit some big-time buckets for her Aquinas squad last season. She’s improved her ability to make contact, and she’s at her best with creating within an offensive set. She’s also shown improvement in athleticism by becoming more explosive when she has the momentum.
During her sophomore season, she averaged 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals per game.
Donarski has verbally committed to Saint Louis.
5. MaKenzie Drout MaKenzie Drout 5'9" | CG Kimberly | 2023 State WI | 5’9 G | Kimberly | Let It Rain
Drout is one of the most creative guards in her class- she’s super dynamic and it starts with her ability to make shots. She is fantastic both off the catch and off the dribble, largely in part because of her quick hands. She can rise into her shot in a very short time, and her release itself is very fast too. Being 5’9, a quick release is imperative for her to be able to shoot and make heavily contested shots. If Drout doesn’t pull from deep, she uses her excellent understanding of pace to get to the lane and create. She has some significant work in the mid-range this summer largely because of the downhill pressure she puts on defending out of a screen. If Drout is not scoring, she is putting her teammates in a position to score.
Drout averaged 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists per game during her sophomore season at Kimberly. She currently holds offers from Appalachian State, Northern Illinois, St. Thomas, Vermont, Wofford, Denver, Evansville, and Youngstown State.
6. Julianna Ouimette Julianna Ouimette 5'9" | CG Lakeland | 2023 State WI | 5’9 PG | Lakeland | Flight Elite
Twitter | Highlights. | 2021 Spring Mixtape.
Ouimette is such an impressive prospect with athleticism and skillset ready for the next level. She can score the ball easily at multiple levels. She’s a downhill player with tremendous foot speed and burst from the perimeter. She can put the brakes on in a hurry to slow down for her soft floater game in the paint. Ouimette will likely have the ball in her hands on most possessions as a primary ball-handler. She’s shifted with the basketball, and she’s shown an improved ability to read the pick-and-roll coverages. She does an impressive job at punishing defenders that go under the screen by stopping and popping from range. Ouimette’s patience mixed with her ability to create should translate well to the next level.
Averaged 27 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 7 steals per game during her sophomore season. She scored her 1,000th point during her sophomore season as well.
Ouimette currently holds offers from Kansas State and UW Milwaukee.
7. Antionique Auston Antionique Auston 5'8" | CG Sun Prarie | 2023 State WI | 5’8 CG | Sun Prairie | Flight Elite
Auston is a very impressive point guard that makes her teammates better. She sets the tone when she is on the floor. Her aggression, quick-twitch, and toughness alone are enough to rattle defenders. She makes extremely smart passes when the defense collapses onto her. She plays with a high motor and can score efficiently the entire game. She attacks well in transition and takes advantage of her quickness and body control when taking her opponent one and one. She creates several extra possessions for her team through her offensive rebounding and hustle.
Auston averaged 16 points per game during her sophomore season. She currently holds offers from Bradley, Bryant, Duquesne, Green Bay, and Montana State.
8. Mallory Hoitink Mallory Hoitink 5'10" | SG Slinger | 2023 State WI | 5’10 CG | Slinger | Purple Aces
Hoitink’s ability to finish at the rim is phenomenal. She’s an ultra-smooth guard who commands attention on the floor. A knock-down shooter as well, Hoitink can hit it from deep off the catch. Hoitink is confident in a fast pace setting and excels when pushing the ball down the court. She displays a skilled turnaround and a strong drive on the baseline. She has a great combination of size, length, athleticism, and explosiveness. She’s at her best right now when attacking the rim and battling through contact to draw fouls. She showed some great signs of defensive versatility and aggressiveness last season.
Hoitink averaged 15 points and 5 rebounds per game during her sophomore season. She holds Division 1 offers from Binghamton University, North Dakota, Northern Illinois, San Jose State, and Youngstown State.
9. Meghan Schultz Meghan Schultz 6'4" | C New Berlin West | 2023 State WI | 6’4 C | New Berlin West | Flight Elite
She operates well away from the basket, but that’s not to say that she doesn’t produce inside at a high level. She is great at finding space in the paint without the ball; it’s clear that her IQ is high, and she uses it to think ahead. She’s coordinated, moves well, gets up and down the floor, and plays the modern big man role. Schultz has a soft touch around the rim if she’s not using her body to finish with authority against contact. She’s comfortable operating in the mid-post and creating shot opportunities with fadeaways. Schultz has the potential to be an explosive athlete, and she hints at it in the half-court. Her off-ball instincts defensively are impressive as well; she’s a weak side block threat at all times. Due to her length, she will be able to finish above and around defenders at the rim.
Schultz averaged 19 points and 9 rebounds per game during her sophomore season. She has verbally committed to UW Green Bay.
10. Beautiful Waheed Beautiful Waheed 5'9" | CG Milwaukee Academy of Science | 2023 State WI | 5’7 PG | Milwaukee Academy of Science | Wisconsin PGC
Twitter. | Spring Highlight Tape.
Entering the Top 10 for the first time in her high school career is the phenomenally crafty and versatile guard Beautiful Waheed Beautiful Waheed 5'9" | CG Milwaukee Academy of Science | 2023 State WI . She is explosive and can put up huge numbers each time she steps on the floor. She is an elite athlete that can score at will from each level. Waheed has some of the smoothest mechanics in her class. She shoots with balance, aligns the ball with the hoop, keeps the ball close to her body, flicks to her wrist to generate great rotation, and keeps her eyes on the rim the entire time. Her decision-making has made massive strides- she’s much more aware of when to create and when to play-make than she was two years ago, so that is a great sign of her development.
