The Melvin L. Crum Gymnasium at Bethune-Bowman was the site for all of the festivities. The Jamboree featured a non-traditional game format with two eight-minute halves in lieu of quarters as well as a 3-point shootout on the second day which was Saturday.
Prep Girls Hoops made the trek to Bethune-Bowman, which is just outside of Orangeburg, to take it all in. The Class of 2022 was well represented. Here is a look at who stood out.
Shar’dasia Zeigler Shar’dasia Zeigler 5'5" | CG Orangeburg-Wilkinson | 2022 State SC – 2022 – Orangeburg-Wilkinson HS – The Bruins looked like the Bruins on Friday night at Bethune-Bowman and its talented senior guard was a really big reason for that. She displayed exactly how tough and hard-nosed she is – especially when attacking the basket. Zeigler plays a fearless brand of basketball where she is anything but afraid to be physical and draw contact. She takes care of the ball, is efficient with her passes and will set up her team’s offense with a half court set. Zeigler plans on attending South Carolina State University after high school.
Deondra Darby Deondra Darby 5'6" | CG Orangeburg-Wilkinson | 2022 State SC – 2022 – Orangeburg-Wilkinson HS – A big reason why the Bruins are likely to be contenders once again in 3A play is because of the stout senior class coach Cedrick Simpson will throw at opponents this season. Darby too will find herself playing point for the Bruins and can also be in isolation situations. She too had no problem shooting the 3, grabbing rebounds and setting herself up to get open looks. Darby can also be creative and crafty with how she dishes the rock to her teammates
Quanaisha Myers Quanaisha Myers 5'2" | CG Lake Marion | 2022 State SC – 2022 – Lake Marion HS – Quanaisha Myers Quanaisha Myers 5'2" | CG Lake Marion | 2022 State SC is one of many quintessential, quality combo guards across the state – and those talents were on full display this past weekend. Myers had a few occasions at the Jamboree where she managed to have opportunities at the line. On defense, she in the middle of many defensive situations between deflected passes and blocks. She appeared to be one step ahead of any play an opponent threw at her which, in this case, was the Trojans of Hunter-Kinard-Tyler.
Neysa Patrick – 2022 – Bethune-Bowman HS – Given this past weekend’s Jamboree was held at Bethune-Bowman, the senior guard proved as one of its unofficial grand marshals. And she proved to be a gracious host via her play. Patrick, on many occasions, showcased her hustle – including with how she would dive after loose balls. She would make proficient passes to her teammates and stymie opposing ball carriers for Edisto (who the Mohawks played in the final girls game of the event) with her lockdown defense. Patrick attempted 3-pointers, was in the right place at the right time on a number of plays and drew contact to get to the free throw line.
