It featured two several talented players including one committed division one prospect. In this battle of Jaguars, the team from Raleigh prevailed as Athens Drive won, 48-46 on Friday. Prep Girls Hoops NC takes a look at the top standouts from this intense battle in the nightcap.
Markayla Massenburg (Athens Drive 2022 forward)
When Athens Drive needed big plays in the fourth quarter to seal the victory, senior forward Markayla Massenburg was there to make things happen. She led the way with 13 points in a balanced attack for the Jaguars hitting jump shots, getting to the basket with ease, and setting the tone on defense. She should be another unsigned senior standout for a team that’ll be difficult to beat.
Layla Forte (Athens Drive 2023 guard)
Layla Forte got it started for Athens Drive with a number of great plays to put her team in front. She added 12 points with half of that coming from three point range. Forte took smart, efficient shots and defended well against excellent Farmville Central guards. Alongside fellow junior guard Paris Webster, who also had 12, this backcourt is one to watch in the state capital.
Amiya Joyner Amiya Joyner 6'3" | PF Farmville Central | 2022 State #67 Nation NC (Farmville Central 2022 forward, ECU Signee)
Despite being played in a box-and-one most of the contest, Amiya Joyner Amiya Joyner 6'3" | PF Farmville Central | 2022 State #67 Nation NC showed a variety of skills including an improved jump shot and face up game. She made great cuts to the rim on baseline out of bounds plays to create easy shots and get things going for her team. The senior forward recently became the highest rated recruit to ever sign a National Letter of Intent with East Carolina.
Janisja Carmon (Farmville Central 2023 guard)
On a day where the Jaguars offense struggle to put the ball in the basket, Janisja Carmon appeared to have no problems doing that. The junior guard did a lot of damage from distance causing Athens Drive to have to honor her ability to knock down perimeter shots. She also played great defense throughout the contest and brings a lot of energy to this Farmville Central team.
