Mayah Holzhueter Mayah Holzhueter 5'11" | SF Cambridge | 2022 State WI -5’11 F-’22-Cambridge: This 5’11 forward is a sneaky good scorer. She can score from anywhere on the floor and is a versatile athlete. Holzhueter is a volleyball player in the fall, and the athleticism she uses in volleyball shows come basketball season. Last season she was a 20 point scorer, and one would believe she will be around that number again this season. Her Cambridge team begins their season on the road against Palmyra-Eagle.
Lily Cayley Lily Cayley 5'8" | CG Eau Claire Memorial | 2023 State WI -5’8 G-’23-Eau Claire Memorial: Cayley is an underrated guard with one of the best handles in the state. She plays with a lot of creativity. Even when she’s trapped, Cayley always seems to find a way out. Going into her junior season, Cayley has a chance to rise in the rankings in the state due to her experience and opportunity at Eau Claire Memorial. Cayley will begin her season on the road tonight against Holmen.
Avree Antony Avree Antony 5'10" | SG Sun Prarie | 2023 State WI -5’9 G-’23-Sun Prairie: The Sun Prairie guard is one of the most talented players in the state. Even though she hasn’t played that much for the Cardinals, her talent is universally understood and accepted. Last season the Cardinals underperformed. That may be due to players being in and out of the lineup or Covid rules in Dane County. Regardless of what caused it, the Cardinals have all the makings of a team that can make a massive turnaround this season. The Cardinals begin their season at home against Marshfield.
Abby Thompson Abby Thompson 5'6" | CG Blair- Taylor | 2023 WI -5’6 G-’23-Blair-Taylor: Thompson is one-half of the Blair-Taylor backcourt with Lindsay Steien Lindsay Steien 5'9" | CG Blair- Taylor | 2023 State WI . The Steien-Thompson backcourt is like having two of the same player on the floor. Thompson has been consistent and improved around the edges from her freshman to her sophomore season. She has gotten better with more experience, improving her assist to turnover ratio. Her scoring took a small jump, that could mean a few things. I would hope that she can improve that this season simply by improving her efficiency. Steien and Thompson are both at a disadvantage gaining eyes on them during the season due to their school’s size, but they deserve the attention, and they have earned it.
