The current starting lineup for the Bruins is all 5’10” to 6’2″, with more of that height coming off the bench along with some plucky young Guards. I caught this team in a practice about a week before the scrimmages held at Bullitt East on the 20th.
This team could be a great ball control team with the potential they have to rebound and handle the basketball. With just enough punch in transition and good shot selection, Ballard will be the most improved team from a season ago in the 7th Region, the most talent-laden Region of the KHSAA.
A’Nya Winburn A’Nya Winburn 5'11" | CG Ballard | 2022 State KY – ’22 5’11″/CG – Ballard
Winburn is a slasher that can penetrate and score with either hand and is a three-level scorer that can shoot the three, and penetrate into the paint for the short jumper. She is so fast with and without the ball and could play the 1, 2, or 3. Defensively, she turns risky passes into points in transition.
In college, she is considering studying Sports Medicine/Kinesiology and has offers from Spalding, Brescia, Wilberforce, and Madonna University
Ella Koralia – ’23 5’11″/SG – Ballard Louisville Lady Trojans
Koralia is a three-level scorer with a mid-range and three-point shot who can dribble and shoot with either hand around the hoop. She runs the floor, distributes the ball, and makes accurate cross-court passes but is sometimes a bit too unselfish near the hoop passing when it would be best to shoot. During the scrimmage, she scored a layup on a drive that began as dep as halfcourt.
Defensively she displays great hand-eye coordination to deflect passes and challenge shots. For the Bruins, she is the Point Guard but I suspect she will be a Shooting Guard or Small Forward at the next level.
In college, she is considering Psychology as a Major and so far she has only had a little contact from Transylvania University.
Kennedy Fitzpatrick – ’23 5’11″/PF – Ballard Louisville Lady Trojans
Fitzpatrick stays after the ball on the boards and cleans the glass of buckets. She protects the ball with her body on the dribble and has an effective short corner jumper. She put forth a ton of hustle and has soft hands to make the difficult catch in transition.
She has been spoken to by Transylvania and hopes to study Criminal Psychology in college.
Kambree Lathery – ’23 6’2″/C – Ballard Louisville Legends
Lathery is the starting Center and shoots the three well enough to be a Stretch player. She can catch and score in transition, stays after it on the boards, and finds someone to box out when the shot goes up
Trinity Armour – ’24 5’10″/SF – Ballard
Armour was not there on the day I attended practice but in the scrimmage, she was effective rebounding from the back of the zone and starting the break until she could find a Guard to get the ball to. She moves well without the ball and is a solid all-around post player that is sure to contribute
Makayla May – ’24 5’6″/SF – Ballard
May demonstrated an ability to penetrate and kick the ball to open shooter and that she can known down the wing three. Defensively she doesn’t hesitate to box out the shooter
She is interested in studying Medicine during college
Myah Koralia – ’25 5’8″/SG – Ballard
Koralia is a good shooter and has been well-coached. She knows how to read screens and when to slip a screen and roll to the hoop for two.
Naveah Paul – ’25 5’3/PG – Ballard
Paul has a great cross-over dribble and is very comfortable with the ball maintaining a low dribble in traffic. She appears unphased by double teams on the dribble and is active in passes lanes defensively.
LeeAnn Lyninger – ’25 4’11″/PG – Ballard
Lyninger is a scrappy, on-ball defender and ballhawk.
