Our single-A, double-A, triple-A and quadruple-A previews have already been unveiled. Next up are teams that occupy South Carolina’s Midlands in Region 4-AAAAA.
Ariana Wilkes Ariana Wilkes 6'2" | C Spring Valley | 2022 State SC – 2022 – Spring Valley HS – Things will develop full circle for Wilkes in the coming season. She spent her first two high school seasons with the Vikings before taking her talents to coach Asia Dozier’s Cardinal Newman team where she helped bring a third consecutive SCISA 3A championship to the Cardinals. Now, she will don green and gold once again. Wilkes can play a variety of positions, primarily in the frontcourt. She can block shots, but also will run out to the perimeter to prevent any 3-pointers from being made. Wilkes can shoot the 3-pointer herself in addition to collecting rebounds and converting on high-percentage shots near the rim.
Jada Jones Jada Jones 5'6" | SG Rock Hill | 2022 State SC – 2022 – Rock Hill HS – Prep Girls Hoops saw plenty of head coach Kennan Orr’s Bearcats players during the midpoint of the travel and camp campaign. Bearcats fans have seen plenty of Jones in athletic competition between her work with both the basketball and soccer teams. Jones presents a great deal of speed and agility. She can set up her team’s offense in the half court and will put points on the board via the 3-point shot or her ability to drive to the basket – even through a sea of defenders. Jones can also hit her free throws, put her hands up to make things difficult for opposing ball carriers and make timely passes to teammates. She recently received a track and field scholarship offer from Mississippi State University.
Jones is the Prep Girls Hoops Preseason Region Player of the Year
Makayla Street Makayla Street 5'8" | SF Rock Hill | 2022 State SC – 2022 – Rock Hill HS – The Bearcats and coach Kennan Orr have one noteworthy class of 2022 that will take to the Rock Hill court for one final season. Street covers a great deal of ground and is constantly active on the court. She will make plenty of plays with how she attacks the rim and will weave her way through defenders en route to the cup. Street is a consistent double-double threat as she excels in terms of getting rebounds and tallying points on the scoreboard. She will block shots, get steals and add to the Bearcats’ depth.
Gracie Wilson Gracie Wilson 5'6" | SG Rock Hill | 2022 State SC – 2022 – Rock Hill HS – Wilson is another of the Rock Hill standouts that brings years of experience into this season. Just as well as she can shoot the 3-pointer, Wilson will play perimeter defense to guard against the 3. She will also grab rebounds and she plays with a high basketball IQ. She stays ready to receive the ball at any time. Her defensive play will also see her come away with a fair amount of steals. Wilson also knows how to make extra passes and will draw contact to put her at the free throw line. On the travel circuit, she wore the uniform of Team Elite Next Generation.
Airez Fobbs Airez Fobbs 5'10" | PF Rock Hill | 2022 State SC – 2022 – Rock Hill HS – The Bearcats were one game shy of the 5A state championship game last season. That makes the goal clear for Rock Hill, particularly for the veteran leaders such as Fobbs. She will put in plenty of work in the paint and can also come off the bench if necessary. Fobbs will make clutch plays that will provide a lift for her team. She can match an opposing ball carrier step for step and move for move in addition to hitting her shots from anywhere on the floor – including from long range or from mid range. She will also set up an offense in the half court game.
Fobbs and her teammates will be playing in the Hoopin In The Ville Classic this weekend in Hartsville to start the season.
Lanasia Brown Lanasia Brown CG Ridge View | 2022 State SC – 2022 – Ridge View HS – Brown managed to come back from injuries to put together a very stellar 2020-21 season where she came away with All-Region honors. One of five seniors on this season’s roster for coach Terrence Gibson’s Blazers, she showcases how much of an unselfish player she is while still taking her fair share of shots. Brown has the capability to slash through a number of defenders and finish at the rim while also being able to make accurate passes to open teammates. She can get to the rim quickly but will also shoot the 3-point shot.
Madison Brown Madison Brown 6'0" | PF Blythewood | 2022 State SC – 2022 – Blythewood HS – The Bengals are in search of its first winning season since 2013-14 when coach Steve Inabinet’s team posted a 13-11 mark and a 6-4 region record (when Blythewood played at the 4A level). Brown primarily plays the four and her 6-foot stature makes her ideal for the position. Outside of what she does with the Bengals, she participates in the grassroots realm with SC Future. Brown is one of many 2022s that will be looking to conclude their high school careers on a high note and, with her skillset and attributes, she is poised to do just that.
Prep Girls Hoops predictions:
Rock Hill HS – Veteran leadership is an important element in a winning formula in the Bearcats have plenty of it.
