TNE Prep Showcase: HS Standouts
In this article:
Now let’s look at the players who caught my eye from the high school division.
Siera Baptista Siera Baptista 6'0" | PF St. Mary’s Academy Bayview | 2023 State New E – St. Mary Academy Bayview/RI Breakers – 5’11’’ – PF – ’23
Baptista not only caught my eye but got the attention of a few coaches spectating. She ferociously pulls down rebounds and muscles in second-chance points like it is nothing. Not many players owned the paint the way Baptista did, and she took full advantage of her strength on the block. I like Baptista’s mental makeup, toughness, and competitiveness, which are imperative traits for success as an undersized 4.
Maddie Gill Maddie Gill 5'8" | CG Barrington | 2024 State New E – Barrington/Bay State Jaguars – 5’8’’ – PG – ’24
I’ve always liked Gill as a prospect, and even though her game is very quiet, her impact is loud. Gill is a gifted passer who makes some of the best cross-court skip passes I’ve seen. Her basketball IQ is high, and when watching Gill facilitate, it is as if she can see plays develop before they happen. Friday was the most aggressive I have seen Gill on offense and was her most efficient night as a result.
Malaysia Dingle Malaysia Dingle 5'7" | PG Brockton | 2022 State New E – Brockton/RIBC – 5’6’’ – CG – ’22
Dingle came into the gym sniping threes from all around the arc. She was easily the deadliest shooter from Friday night and had the ultimate green light to launch from deep. Dingle also moved the ball well on offense. She threw a few beautiful passes to set up her teammates throughout the night.
Olivia Tedeschi-Moran Olivia Tedeschi-Moran 5'6" | PG Cranston West | 2024 State New E – Cranston West/RI Breakers – 5’6’’ – ’24
I first noticed Tedeschi-Moran during the ball-handling stations and noticed how under control she was with both hands. I was intrigued to watch Tedeschi-Moran’s tight handle translated to 5v5. She is a classic pass-first point guard who does a good job breaking down the defense and initiating the offense. I thought overall, she controlled the tempo and played a mistake-free brand of basketball.
Breena Hannon Breena Hannon 5'10" | SG Northfield Mount Hermon | 2026 State New E – East Providence/Bay State Jaguars – 5’10’’ – PF – ’25
Hannon capped off the Fall with an impressive showing at the Girls Prep Showcase. Another undersized 4, but Hannon can stretch the floor with her outside shooting ability. I also liked how Hannon uses her body to initiate contact and get to the free throw line. Hannon’s offensive versatility stood out also. She can play on the wing, down low, and her skill set makes Hannon extremely valuable in pick and roll/pop action.
