Since I closed the paragraph with my daughter, Sydney Colson, @sydjcolson on both Twitter and The Gram, who had over 100 D1 offers, over a dozed before she enrolled in high school and went on to win a National Championship at Texas A&M before playing multiple years in the WNBA, 6 or 7, I’m dropping this on her Westside High School HS team, what I saw and what they’ll become in district when a couple of key players get back, here ya go and #ThereIsNoMe
2022
Khady Samb-6’2 C
Samb was on a roll and her ability to play multiple roles before her injury speaks volumes about her work ethic because she falls into the one of “Most Improved Players” from freshman to now category and goes from a low post decoy to a legitimate rebounder, defender and finisher tells me she won’t be finished when she gets back in around a month but her presence on the court will give them a new look, trust me
Caroline Self-5’5 G
Self has the right last name because she understands how to “play within herSELF” and not force shots nor plays however she gives them a legitimate player that can drop some shots and it will become more apparent to the “novice” when the team is at Full Force, no Lisa Lisa nor Cult Jam needed
2023
Kaitlynn Evans-5’9 G
Evans is also out yet will also be back in a month or so yet her explosiveness off the dribble to score as well as her defense and playing the passing lane will come in handy for the Lady Wolves who are known year after year for the heat they bring on defense so HISD will be up for grabs
Makayla Evans-5’9 G
Evans, yeah they’re twins, and I remember watching her pre-high school creating her shot and dropping that pull-up which kept improving and her ability to get by defenders with a deceptive first step to drop the jumper or use her body control to finish after contact will add fuel to the fire
Kortlin Allen-5’6 G
Allen is athletic, on both ends, and her acrobatic finishes at the event were nice but her “poise on the court” was equally impressive but when you show the mindset of playing the same way, baseline to baseline, for the whole game no matter what the score is, that deserves the #NeverTakesA PlayOff hashtag
2024
Neso Anisiobi-5’10 F
Anisiobi is “long and athletic” and I love her upside as she goes after the ball off the rim and powered her way to the basket for buckets yet she also did a good job defending both inside and outside the paint
Te’Lynn Lee-Rose-6’1 PF/C
Lee-Rose is also “long and athletic” and her upside is equally impressive because, well because I said so and that should be enough because I’m not a novice at this so seeing her do things “instinctively” as well as how she “reacts” on certain plays tells me a lot
