This article is going to be focusing on the talent that has been shown throughout the first week of December in the Arizona Class AAAAAA.
Ashiian Hunter Ashiian Hunter 5'5" | PG Mesa | 2023 State AZ – Junior – 5’4″ – Mesa High School
Hunter is a five-foot-four junior for the Mesa Lady jackrabbits that is leading her team this year as a Captain on and off of the floor. So far this season, the combo point/shooting guard is averaging an extremely impressive 21.3 points per game followed by 5.9 rebounds, 3.9 steals and, 3.3 assists per game in just the first 7 games. The Lady Jackrabbits have started off the year only losing one close game to Canyon View 39-46 right after the Thanksgiving Holiday. Since then, Ashiian has bounced back with the next three games putting up 19, 20, and 30 points. We are just barely cracking the surface this season and Hunter has already racked up 149 points. This little firecracker will be one to follow over the rest of her high school career.
Mia Singstock Mia Singstock 5'9" | SF Pinnacle | 2024 State AZ – Sophomore – 5’9″ – Pinnacle High School
Singstock is a top-notch performer that is starting off her sophomore season with the Pinnacle Lady Pioneers. The five-foot-nine combo guard is averaging 17.1 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game along with 2.3 steals per game and 2.0 assists per game to start off the year. After losing the season opener by 3 points to a talented Dobson team, the Pinnacle Varsity squad has won all 9 since with the help of #34. Mia is a knock-down three-point shooter that is shooting 34% from behind the arc and has made 20 three-pointers just in the first few games. This youngster is comfortable on the floor while playing up and is not afraid to give you a run for your money.
Jordyn Decker Jordyn Decker 5'9" | SG University | 2023 State AZ – Junior – 5’10″ – Rincon University
Another featured team captain in this article is Jordyn Decker Jordyn Decker 5'9" | SG University | 2023 State AZ from Rincon University. The five-foot-ten junior is averaging 15.7 points per game, 6.3 rebounds per game and, 5.7 steals per game in just the first three games of the season. She is also averaging 2.0 assists per game and 1.7 blocks per game. Decker is an all-around athlete that can get the job done anywhere on the court. She is a versatile player with a lot of experience playing on up in a tough division (has played on Varsity since freshman year). Even though the team as a whole has only pulled out one win, Decker still found a way to make her presence on the floor known.
Sierra Bomhower Sierra Bomhower 5'10" | SF Cibola | 2024 State AZ – Sophomore – 5’8″ – Cibola High School
Five-foot-eight sophomore guard, Sierra Bomhower Sierra Bomhower 5'10" | SF Cibola | 2024 State AZ , for the Cibola Lady Raiders has been one to watch and is showing early on in December that she is STILL one to watch. In just a handful of games played so far, the lengthy guard is averaging 15.0 points per game followed by 4.4 steals, 4.3 rebounds and, 2.9 assists per game to start off the 2021-2022 basketball season. The Lady Raiders have started off the year as an undefeated 7-0 team to beat after some wins in December. Sierra had a big 24 point game against Yuma where she hit 2 three-pointers for 40%, 100% from the free-throw line and, 70% from the field. With just about three more full seasons of eligibility left, Bomhower is going to be a name you will be hearing in the AAAAAA frequently.
Amelia Mickelson – Freshman – 6’0″ – Sunnyslope High School
Amelia is a six-foot freshman from Sunnyslope High School that plays wing for the Lady Vikings. So far this season, Mickelson is averaging 11.6 points per game and an impressive 7.4 rebounds per game. She is also making 2.6 assists per game and 2.4 steals per game to add to her stat line throughout the first couple of games. In the first game of her high school career, the freshman scored 25 points in the season opener for a big win over Liberty High School. During that game, Amelia shot the ball 75% from the three-point line, knocking down 6 of the 8 shots she put up. She also went 50% from the free-throw line and the field throughout that game. This young gun is off to a hot start in the top division in the state. Keep that in mind when you hear her name again.
