Mike’s Takes: Players Who Have Impressed (Pt. 3)

I’ve been to a number of games and events through the first half of the season. In addition, I have watched tape and highlights across social media. [player_tooltip player_id="349372" first="Fenishka" last="Bertho"] - North Miami 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="349372" first="Fenishka" last="Bertho"] has plenty of time to develop into a dominant post player. Listed at 6-foot-4, Bertho is averaging 15.6 points, 12.8 rebounds and 3.9 blocks per game while shooting 55 percent from the floor. Bertho’s rejections are currently 7th best in Florida. Her teammate, 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="353537" first="Desiree" last="Sinclair"], is averaging a team-best 17.3 points per game while shooting 48 percent from the field. The 5-foot-10 forward scored 20 points and grabbed nine boards against <strong>Santaluces</strong>. 2025 <strong>Lexie Nicolas</strong> is averaging 10.6 points, 5.5 assists and 4.1 steals per game. The Pioneers have a nice blend of veteran and young players. North Miami is 10-2 overall. [player_tooltip player_id="156588" first="Khyala" last="Ngodu"] - Dillard The Panthers are 8-3 overall behind 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="156588" first="Khyala" last="Ngodu"]. The 6-foot-2 power forward has averaged 15.6 points, 10.6 rebounds and three blocks per game. Her rejections are currently 18th best in the state. Ngodu has eight double-doubles already this season. Against <strong>Plantation American Heritage </strong>(9-1), she scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Ngodu also scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against <strong>Western</strong> (8-1). She has been a consistent double-double prospect throughout her high school career. Jasmine Maldonado - South Homestead Somerset Academy 2023 Jasmine Maldonado has the size to be effective. The 6-foot-1 center is averaging 8.5 points, 11.1 rebounds and two blocks per game for the Lady Hurricanes. Moreover, she has grabbed nine or more boards in seven of eight games. South Homestead Somerset Academy is 8-0 with Maldonado holding down the paint. Emily Gamon - Miami Varela 2024 Emily Gamon could be a player to watch in Miami-Dade County. The 5-foot-4 guard is averaging 25.1 points per game. Her scoring average is currently fourth best in the state. Gamon dropped 26 points against South Homestead Somerset Academy. The Vipers are currently 3-5 overall. Kaydie Sturm - North Broward Prep 2025 Kaydie Sturm could have a bright future in South Florida. The 5-foot-6 prospect is averaging 17 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.9 steals per game. Sturm dropped 19 points on <strong>Berean Christian</strong> (6-1) and hit three 3-pointers while grabbing seven rebounds. While she did struggle against <strong>Cardinal Gibbons</strong> and <strong>Somerset Academy-Canyons</strong>, who have a combined record of 18-4, she has shown promise. Again, these are good numbers for a freshman. North Broward Prep is 7-2 overall.
