Player of the Game:
Emily Greenwood Emily Greenwood 6'0" | SF New Hampton | 2022 State New E – New Hampton – 6’0’’ – SF – ’22
All around, I thought Greenwood was the best player on the floor. She finished the game with 10 points, but her facilitation, rebounding, and defense were key to New Hampton’s 8-point road win. The offense ran so smoothly whenever the ball went through Greenwood to make a play. She sees the floor well and does a good job finding the open shooters and cutters when the help comes. She also was critical in cleaning up the defensive glass with picture-perfect box-outs. In the 4th quarter, Greenwood hit a huge three to put her team up 4 then drew an offensive foul on Dexter Southfield that helped clinch the victory.
New Hampton Standouts:
Mia Mancini Mia Mancini 5'7" | PG New Hampton | 2023 State New E – 5’3’’ – PG – ’23
Mancini had 17 points (15 in the second half), but it wasn’t just her explosive scoring that made her stand out. She was nothing short of spectacular in the 4th quarter. She found her rhythm offensively; and even though her shot was off throughout the 1st half, Mancini stayed aggressive and still hunted for her shot in crucial moments. She was also sharp on defense. Her awareness led to two huge momentum-changing steals; one being a great interception from the weak side on a post entry pass. Mancini’s toughness and grit shined brightest in the biggest moments.
Peyton Grant – 5’7’’ – SG – ’22
Grant was on fire in the first half totaling 16 points and 4 three-pointers which helped give New Hampton a 5-point lead going into halftime. It was like she couldn’t miss in the first half and set the tone offensively for the team with her jump shooting. Grant gained more confidence with every move, and she was not hesitant to pull from anywhere behind the arc. She had only 5 points in the second half, but the defense keyed in on her, opening up the lane for Emily Greenwood Emily Greenwood 6'0" | SF New Hampton | 2022 State New E and Mia Mancini Mia Mancini 5'7" | PG New Hampton | 2023 State New E to slash and create in the lane. Grant finished with a game-high 21 points and 5 three-pointers.
Dexter Southfield Standouts:
Kayana Armbrister Kayana Armbrister 6'0" | SF Dexter Southfield | 2023 State New E – 6’0’’ – PF/SF – ’23
Armbrister led the team with 19 points and had a few loud blocks at the rim. Her athleticism is out of this world; I have never seen anyone with a vertical like hers. Her leaping ability allows her to protect the paint, rebound, and finish at a high level. Armbrister also showed her range and hit a couple of three-pointers. She is a dynamic forward who should continue to put up ridiculous numbers this winter.
Sheyenne Swain-Price Sheyenne Swain-Price 6'1" | PF Dexter Southfield | 2023 State New E – 6’0’’ – PF – ’23
If Swain-Price did not get into foul trouble, she could’ve gone off for 25 points in this game. She got her offense going in the first quarter with an and-1 along with another interior bucket. A traditional big, Swain-Price does all her damage on the block, and even with taller forwards on her, she still out-muscled everyone down low. If she got the ball in the post, no one could stop her, and on the glass, she was impossible to box out. Swain-Price finished with 15 points.
