2022
Danielle Mendoza-6’0-PF/C (Woodlands Christian)
Mendoza has good size and she uses it well both on the inside, she rebounds on both ends of the court, scores on putbacks as well as shows some nice moves around the basket but she also can handle the ball and score off the dribble. Her midrange is nice, she did a good job creating her shot and getting to her spot
Mackenzie Morris-G (Woodlands Christian)
Morris has catlike instincts on defense, no one will get the “play on words” yet her play on the court grabbed me off the top with her quick hands to break up plays or come up with steals yet those instincts also stood out as she did a good job “playing the passing lane” and in case you don’t know, that’s a lost art. Her deceptive first step allowed her to get to the rim
Chloe Burton-PF (Second Baptist)
Burton used her body well on both ends of the court, first of all, she understands positioning and did a good of boxing out to grab rebounds on both ends of the court yet she also made her presence felt on putbacks. She’s strong, she battled for loose balls and she did a good job applying pressure on the defensive end
2023
Kate Marshall Kate Marshall 6'0" | PF Second Baptist | 2023 State TX -PF (Second Baptist)
Marshall grabbed my attention last season the way she grabbed the ball off the rim and following its flight “just did it for me” even though it was just a high school game, the platform doesn’t matter if you know what you’re looking at. She finishes with players literally hanging on her, yeah that impresses me as well but so does her hands and footwork as well as her running the floor on both ends
2024
Olivia Sauvageau Olivia Sauvageau 5'7" | PG Second Baptist | 2024 State TX -PG (Second Baptist)
Sauvageau is a hard name for me to spell, so I have to cheat, but more importantly, she’s becoming hard to contain and when I caught her before high school, it was something about her “shake and bake” that needed help, another play on words from another era yet she’s doing things at the 1 from another era. Yeah, I love her stop and pop in transition yet in transition her court vision is taking off, well also in the set but her ability to control the tempo, score off the dribble or dish off the dribble as well as “man up” baseline to baseline all stood out
Jazzlyn Williams-PF (Second Baptist)
Williams was a pleasant surprise because of two things, her size and her classification as well as her upside, okay THREE things but watching her movement around the rim, her desire to “go get it” as well as her being able to finish told me a lot when you go back to the start of the sentence. She was mobile, showed agility on defense, enough to defend outside the paint as well as inside so she definitely has potential
