I attended a 5A South battle between the Lake Hamilton Lady Wolves and the Sheridan Lady Yellowjackets. There was a plethora of talent on the court. Lake Hamilton pounded the boards for a dominant 75-33 win. Poor shooting in the first half created the scoring gap that Sheridan could not overcome. Below is a summary of the players that stood out in the game.

. Lake Hamilton. At 5’ 10”, this senior swing guard does it all. She can score both inside and outside. Hayleigh has great court awareness and a nose for the ball. A quality defender, she has the speed and strength to play at the next level.
Ginny Higginbotham. Lake Hamilton. Ginny is a natural team leader that can see the entire court. A senior point guard with excellent footwork, handles the rock with both hands at ease, and leads her team in assists. If not dishing It off to her teammates, she’s driving to the basket for a lay-in.
Audri Winfrey. Lake Hamilton. This senior power forward is strong. A physical rebounder with enough size at 5’ 11” to bang with taller opponents and yet can knock down 3’s as well. Audri is a dual sport high school athlete also playing volleyball at a high level. However, she desires to play basketball in college.
Outstanding Sophomores To Watch!
Emma Hughes. Lake Hamilton. Emma is a notorious defender that plays with intense energy. Not afraid to take on bigger opponents, and will go to the floor for all loose balls. Her aggressiveness serves as a spark plug for her team when she comes off the bench.
Brooklyn Braughton. Lake Hamilton. This is another scrappy defender with a nose for the ball. Not afraid of floor burns either, defense and transition is her specialty. Brooklyn displays speed and quickness on the court.

. Sheridan. Kayden has excellent court awareness and can find the open player. She can create her shot and will penetrate as well as shoot the 3. She’s a good defender, with excellent anticipation. Just a sophomore, she appears to be the team leader and has a great future ahead of her.
Both schools have another two weeks to get ready for post season play. Lake Hamilton is at the top of the 5A South standings with a road game @ Lake Side on Friday, February 4. Sheridan is in the middle of the pack of the standings with some work to do for a postseason appearance. The Lady Yellowjackets will host White Hall on Friday
