In this article, I will discuss some players that are ready to roll this postseason that play the forward/post position. Some of these girls are so skilled you may even see them slide over to the guard spot. Let’s look at who these players are.
Savannah Scott Savannah Scott 6'4" | C Conway | 2023 State AR | Post | 2023 | Conway
Savannah has been holding down the post position for Conway since her freshman year. She’s the anchor to Conway’s defense because of her size she can block and alter any shot that comes her way. She’s also a good rebounder that limits her opponent to one shot. This allows players like Chloe Clardy Chloe Clardy 5'9" | PG Conway | 2023 State AR and Jaiden Thomas Jaiden Thomas 5'10" | SG Conway | 2022 State AR to get out on the break for easy buckets. But in the half-court, Savannah is a handful…actually two handfuls. She can score with her back to the basket, finish with either hand, and she hits the offensive board. When motivated Savannah can dominate the game like no one else. If she is on top of her game it could be lights out for everyone else.
Kalayna King | Forward | 2022 | Conway
Kalayna is a role player that accepts her role and plays it to the best of her ability. She may not light up the scoreboard with a lot of points, but what she brings is very valuable. There are no plays run for Kalayna on the offensive end, but you could look up and she’ll end up with double figures, a handful of rebounds, a steal or two, and a few assists. She defends, runs the floor hard, has a respectable jump shot, and can attack closeouts with straight-line drives to the bucket. She’s shown that if she gets going she can put up big numbers so the defense still has to know where she is on the floor. Kalayna is another piece to this Conway team that makes them dangerous in the postseason.
Destine Duckworth Destine Duckworth 5'10" | SF North Little Rock | 2022 State AR | Forward/Wing | 2022 | North Little Rock
Destine does a little bit of everything for her high school team. She can play out on the perimeter, she slashes, shoots the mid-range, post up some, she’s worked effectively out of the high post, finished in transition, and she defends. I could go on and on, but just know she is like a Swiss army knife for North Little Rock. If she can have a big tournament and use all of her tools, she could lead North Little Rock to the state championship game.
Amauri Williams Amauri Williams 6'3" | C North Little Rock High - West | 2022 State AR | Post | 2022 | North Little Rock
Amauri is another big-time post player that can dominate the paint. Defensively she rebounds and defends well. She can send shots the other way if anyone comes in her house trying to get a shot off. And if she doesn’t block it, her length will make you change your shot to be able to get it off. This is key because North Little Rock loves to play pressure man-to-man defense. Perimeter players are more likely to pressure the ball more when they know they have a 6’4 post player guarding the paint. Offensively she is also a mismatch. She uses her size well, gets up and down the floor, has a soft touch and rebounds well. If she can dominate the paint on both ends of the floor North Little Rock will have a great chance at winning the state title.
Lillian Jackson Lillian Jackson 6'0" | C Central | 2022 State AR | Forward/Post | 2022 | Little Rock Central
Lillian is a player that plays the post, but could slide out to the perimeter. She has a unique skill set for a post player. She’s not like the other post player mentioned in this article. She not going to dominate with her back to the basket, but she possesses skills that can draw the opposing post player away from the basket. She can shoot the three, put the ball on the floor, finish at the rim, pushes it in transition, and she can guard some perimeter player away from the basket. This is key for Central because if Lillian is playing up to her potential, she could be the X-factor that’s the difference-maker for the team’s success this postseason.
Jordan Marshall Jordan Marshall 5'11" | SF Central | 2024 State AR | Forward/Wing | 2024 | Little Rock Central
Jordan was thrown into the lineup last year as a freshman and held her own. She’s scoring around 15 pts a game this season and shows glimpses of her potential and the type of player she can develop into. With her length, standing around 6ft, she can play multiple positions. She can handle the ball, shoot the three, play out of the high post, play off the catch, or break you down off the dribble. If she ball out like she’s capable of, then Central could be a team that no one can overlook.
Aven Sasser Aven Sasser 6'1" | PF Central | 2024 State AR | Forward | 2024 | Little Rock Central
Aven is a team player. And every team needs an Aven. Whatever the team needs she will bring it. She typically comes off the bench but you can’t overlook the value she brings to this team. She brings depth to the team and allows Central to mix up lineups based on who they are playing. She has the versatility defensively to defend a perimeter player one possession and then switch and guard a big on the next possession. Her athletic ability and speed allow her to get out on the break and finish. In the half-court, if you play off her she can make the catch and shoot three-pointer. If Aven is a superstar in her role during the state tournament Central could definitely make a run.
Zoey Bershers | Post | 2025 | Northside
Zoey is only a freshman but she seems to be handling it well playing in the 6A Central. She’s going to be key for Northside this postseason. As a freshman, you want to be cool, calm, and collected. She has the ability to score in the paint, make the catch and shoot three-pointer, has good hands in traffic and on defense and when fully alert is a good help defender. Her play is going to be huge for Northside because as you can see there are some really good and solid interior players in this article. Zoey has to be Zoey and play solid, stay out of foul trouble and make some key plays for her Northside team.
Haitiana Releford | Forward | 2022 | Northside
Haitiana is a strong defender which will be much needed in the state tournament. Her defensive play will be key when Northside needs to contain or slow down some of the better players in this tournament. Offensively, she can post up, finish in traffic, attack off the dribble, make the mid-range jumper, handle the ball, and play multiple positions. All that Haitiana brings to the table is very valuable for Northside.
Khassidy Warr | Forward | 2022 | Northside
Khassidy is going to play hard from the opening tip to the final buzzer. And when you are trying to win a state title, she is the type of player you want on your team. She also has some skills to go with that energy and effort. She can make the mid-range jumper off the dribble, she’s a strong rebounder, and she has a physical presence. Khassidy adds value to her Northside team. If she steps up and plays big, anything can happen can for Northside and they could end up right where they want to be when it’s all said and done.
