We will either see Conway run the table through the state with it’s only loss this season coming from another national powerhouse earlier this year vs Duncanville High School. Or we will see a huge upset if someone is able to take down Conway. Either way, here are some guards that are poised to have huge impact on their team this upcoming postseason.
Chloe Clardy Chloe Clardy 5'9" | PG Conway | 2023 State AR | Guard | 2023 | Conway High School
When you are the best player on the best team you will see a lot of attention from your opponent to slow you down. Chloe is not only one of the most talented players in the state, she is one of the top 40 players in the country. She scores in a variety of ways. She can give you points off the dribble, spot up for the three, score in transition, and she shoots a high percentage from the free-throw line. She is key to Conway’s success and will be looking to lead them to this year’s state title.
Jaiden Thomas Jaiden Thomas 5'10" | SG Conway | 2022 State AR | Guard | 2022 | Conway High School
Jaiden just flies under the radar for her high school team. It’s crazy to think that she is often forgotten about. This sharpshooting LaTech signee has the shooting ability to kill any team’s hopes of winning a game. Her three-point shooting stretches the defense and creates gaps in the defense. Her skill set is a great compliment when you have players like Chloe Clardy Chloe Clardy 5'9" | PG Conway | 2023 State AR and Savannah Scott Savannah Scott 6'4" | C Conway | 2023 State AR . Both of those players draw so much attention that Jaiden makes a living behind the line. Jaiden is looking to go out her senior year on top. So I’m looking for her to be locked in and make some big shots for her Conway team.
Garin Freeman | Point Guard | 2023 | North Little Rock
Garin will be looked upon to step up big time for North Little Rock. She often does a good job at controlling the tempo for her team. She knows when to push it and when to slow it down and get it to her teammates. Garin does well at making plays in the half-court but excels in the open court. Teams will really have to try and contain her and not let her get out in transition. Good point guard play will be much needed for any team to make a run at the state title and Garin will need to be on top of her game to lead North Little Rock.
April Edwards April Edwards 5'9" | CG North Little Rock | 2023 State AR | Combo Guard | 2023 | North Little Rock
April is a combo guard that will spend some time at the point guard position. Her versatility to play either guard position will be key to North Little Rock’s success in the postseason. When playing either position she can attack off the bounce, get to the rim, and keep pressure on the defense with her aggressive nature. She also has a respectable three-ball that can make her tough to defend if she gets going. But her biggest contribution will be what she offers on the defensive end. Her physical on-ball defense will be key when matched up with the opposing team’s best perimeter player. If she can slow down the other team’s star player and be a threat on offense, North Little Rock will have a legitimate shot at the state title.
Brilynn Findley Brilynn Findley 5'7" | PG Bryant | 2024 State AR | Point Guard | 2024 | Bryant
Brilynn does a good job of getting others involved. She doesn’t force anything when on offense. She just takes what the defense gives her and lets the game come to her. Brilynn’s ability to get to the rim and make plays while also being able to make the three-point shot will be much needed for this Bryant team to make some noise. She will need to make big plays and be on top of her game to help lead Bryant for a deep postseason push.
Parris Atkins Parris Atkins 5'7" | SG Bryant | 2022 State AR | Combo Guard | 2022 | Bryant
Parris is going to be one of the most athletic guards on the court when she is playing. She can get to the rim off the bounce and she has extended her shooting range to the three-point line. She’s good in the half-court, but she’s almost unstoppable in transition. Defensively, she will need to use her athletic ability to force the opposing team’s perimeter player to make some mistakes. This will allow her to excel in the open court and give her some easy baskets since her opponent will be keying in on slowing her down. Parris will need to play big minutes and have big games to lead her Bryant team in the postseason.
Jenna Cook | Guard | 2024 | Cabot
Jenna has a good handle that allows her to get into the lane off the dribble to make plays. She can finish herself or find an open teammate. She excels in transition and pushes the ball well. Jenna can finish a variety of ways at the basket off the fastbreak. Her ability to break down the defense and get out in transition will be huge for Cabot during the state tournament. Her balanced scoring and playmaking for teammates can make Cabot a dangerous opponent.
Jaycie Cook | Guard | 2024 | Cabot
Jaycie is another guard from Cabot that can attack off the bounce and make the spot-up three-pointer. You also have to keep your eyes on her when she doesn’t have the ball because she is good at moving and cutting without the ball. This could lead to easy shots for her or a teammate. Defensively she is also solid. She can defend the ball and anticipate when playing the passing. Jaycie’s ability to attack off the dribble could be key to role players on the team. Being able to attract additional defenders to free up teammates for open shots could be huge for Cabot as they make a run in the postseason.
Laylah Reese Laylah Reese 5'7" | SF Cabot | 2023 State AR | Wing | 2023 | Cabot
Laylah is an athlete that brings many tools to the table. She can attack off the bounce, play multiple positions, hit the three-ball, make plays in transition, shoot the mid-range, and lock up defensively. Laylah will be looked upon to bring all those skills during the state tournament. Her all-around play will be huge for Cabot to make some noise and make a run at the state title. I expect Laylah to have some big games this postseason.
