The post and guard play has been some of the best we have seen in a long time. Here are some of the players that stood out mid-week from the best seat in the house, the coach’s box.
Alyssa Staten Alyssa Staten 6'4" | C Statesboro | 2024 State GA I 6’4 I C I 2024 I Statesboro
Staten has been battling an injury most of the season but it was good to see her back on the court at 100%. Staten creates an inside presence that makes it hard to guard her. Has the ability to pin her defenders deep to create easy shots around the basket. Always looking to pinpoint the ball at its highest point and a rebounding machine. Her great court awareness allows her to read the defense and find her open teammates in transition. A game-changer on offense and defense.
Madison Lee Madison Lee 6'0" | SF Statesboro | 2022 State GA I 6’1 I Combo I 2022 I Statesboro
Lee is the energy provider. Always playing hard on both ends of the floor. She creates match-up problems for post and guards due to her size and quickness. Showed her ability to shoot the 3 ball and has a nice mid-range jump shot. Can rebound with the best of them. Has the ability to play all 5 positions. The reigning Region 2-AAAAAA player of the year will definitely be in the running again this season. An exciting player to watch on both ends of the court.
Kayla Page I 5’8 I Wing I 2022 I Glynn Academy
Page plays big on both ends of the floor and is the team leading rebounding. Don’t let her size fool you as she uses her quickness to hit the defensive glass hard. Showed her ability to shoot the 3 ball consistently on the season. Her coach mentioned, “She needs to shoot the ball more”. A player that is really coming on strong in the last half of the season.
Terrika Gibson I 5’8 I SG I 2022 I Statesboro
Gibson is the game manager and has the ability to score at all 3 levels. Uses her quickness to get out in transition and provided some easy scoring opportunities throughout the night. Always moving without the basketball which makes it tough for defenders to keep up with her. Has the ability to pressure teams opposing guards 94ft which leads to turnovers in the open court. Floor General.
Akirria Mountain I 5’6 I PG I 2022 I Glynn Academy
Mountain is the team-leading scorer at 18.1 ppg. Watched her play the other night and she scored 31 points and was 6-12 from behind the arc. Has the ability to score at all 3 levels and always looking to attack the basket. When her feet are set she can knock down the triple consistently. Also can pressure the ball and create defensive matchups for her opponents. A player that could be in the running for Region Player of the Year.
Malayah Dekle I 5’9 I SF I 2022 I Statesboro
Dekle has the ability to be in the right place at the right time. She is always finding her way to the basketball and knows how to rebound and score through contact. Has the ability to get extra possessions for her team. Can defend all positions on the court.
