Here is a rundown of Tuesday’s scores:
#5 Boyd Anderson 47, #4 Piper 44 (OT)
#3 Dillard 60, #6 Nova 30
#2 Blanche Ely 94, #7 Plantation 10
#1 St. Thomas Aquinas will face Boyd Anderson on Wednesday @ 730 pm.
Blanche Ely will face Dillard on Wednesday @ 6:00 pm.
Markyhia Davis – Dillard
2022 Markyhia Davis didn’t look like a player that averages just under three points per game. The 5-foot-4 guard scored a game-high 16 points and hit four 3-pointers. Davis did a nice job finding her shot out on the perimeter. She also created steals with a active hands and strong defensive footwork. Davis’ work in this instance resulted in layups at the other end. She is part of a strong guard group at Dillard. The Panthers play aggressive and have plenty of athleticism. In reality, Davis’ play reflects how much talent the Panthers have.
Brinyia Rolex – Dillard
2023 Brinyia Rolex did an outstanding job protecting the rim. The 6-foot forward made her presence felt near the basket with countless rebounds and rejections. Rolex’s length was also a factor altering shots. Most of her seven points came near the bucket. I thought Rolex did a nice job with 2023 Khyala Ngodu Khyala Ngodu 6'2" | PF Dillard | 2023 State FL out, among others. You can’t teach her length and she offers a ton of value around the paint. Rolex doesn’t need to score or be directly involved in a play to make an impact.
Jordyn Chin-You Jordyn Chin-You 5'11" | PF Nova | 2023 State FL /Alynna Sedeno-Torres – Nova
The Lady Titans have some talent, despite the final score against Dillard. 2022 Alynna Sedeno-Torres scored ten points and knocked down two 3-pointers. The 5-foot-6 guard was a bright spot from the perimeter for Nova. 2023 Jordyn Chin-You Jordyn Chin-You 5'11" | PF Nova | 2023 State FL scored nine points. The 5-foot-11 forward used her frame to score around the cylinder. Most of Nova’s problems were with turnovers and early defensive rebounding. However, I think the overall roster has talent with further improvement in such areas.
Makayla Desir – Piper
2024 Makayla Desir has some talent with her ball handling at guard. I thought the Piper guard showed enough skill at the position. Desir still has two more years to improve her game, so there’s plenty to build on. Per latest information, Desir is averaging just under nine points per game. Classmate Jazell Charles (16.3 ppg) also has a bright future.
Few observations:
Blanche Ely can set multiple rotations and play well. I didn’t even mention 2024 Gianna Corbitt Gianna Corbitt 6'1" | SF Blanche Ely | 2024 State FL in my last piece. Corbitt has a ton of athleticism and good footwork at 6-foot-1. The Tigers have as much talent and depth as any team around. They played a tough schedule this season and should be better for it the playoffs roll along.
Regardless of Wednesday’s outcome against Blanche Ely, Dillard has a number of quality young players. One of them is 2025 Ny’Keria Flowers. The 5-foot-3 guard is averaging just under eight points while dishing out three assists per game.
