POLL: Player of the Week Feb. 14-Feb. 19
In this article:
It’s time for a final player of the week poll for the regular season.
Anna Nielsen Anna Nielsen 5'10" | CG Verona Area | 2022 State WI -5’10 G/F-’22-Verona-(Carroll University Commit)
The last week of Nielsen’s regular season went like this. Defeated a top Division 3 team in Waupun, scored a career-high 26 points on senior night, and earned a share of the Big Eight Conference title. Not a bad way to end the season. Nielsen is one of the most aggressive players I’ve seen play. The senior also isn’t taking anything in her final season for granted. The Wildcat will play for coach Lindsay Schultz at Carroll University next season.
Emily Jaenke Emily Jaenke 5'10" | CG Fox Valley Luthern | 2023 State WI -5’10-G-’23-Fox Valley Lutheran
On Thursday, Feb. 17, Jaenke reached the 1,000 career point milestone against Waupaca. The junior has been a consistent source of offense since she strolled onto the FVL campus as a freshman. Jaenke reached the milestone by spotting up for a corner 3-pointer that she made with ease. Not only was Thursday night a moment to remember, but earlier in the week, the junior scored 25 points against a talented Wrightstown team, leading her FVL team to a dominant 71-35 win.
Nevaeh Thompson Nevaeh Thompson 5'11" | SF Waukesha South | 2024 WI -5’10 G/F-’24-Waukesha West
If you like an old-school game, Thompson is the player you want. Beginning with an upset win, on the road, against Kettle Moraine, the Wolverine has found her stride offensively. Her last six games have been her six highest-scoring games of the season, and West is riding a six-game winning streak. I have to think there is a correlation there. Thompson uses her strength to get a good position under the basket and force her defender to give her a free layup or foul her. We could be watching a young player breakout before our eyes.
Madisonn Fitzgibbonn Madisonn Fitzgibbonn 5'6" | SG Homestead | 2025 WI -5’6 G-’25-Homestead
The young Mequon team, led by Fitzgibbon, clinched its first North Shore Conference title in 20 years. I got the chance to see this team play once at Kettle Moraine Lutheran. They didn’t play their best that day, but the talent of their six freshmen to supplement Katelyn Odem Katelyn Odem 5'8" | SG Homestead | 2024 State WI and Delaney Buzzell Delaney Buzzell 5'8" | CG Homestead | 2023 WI was clear. Fitzgibbon has been excellent and scored 29 against a good Grafton team this week. I have to highlight everyone. Whether it was Natalie Mueller Natalie Mueller 5'6" | SG Homestead | 2025 State WI ’s shooting, Lauren Strifling’s and her versatility, or the spark that Grace Zortman brings, Homestead always found a way to win. The Highlanders are a team built for this postseason and the future.
JJ Glass-Barnes JJ Glass-Barnes 5'8" | CG The Prairie School | 2025 State WI -5’8 PG-’25-The Prairie School
Barnes has helped make The Prairie School a force to be reckoned with this season. The freshman is one of the most talented players in Wisconsin and brings unbelievable consistency. The Hawks finished the season with a 22-2 record, and Barnes’ play was crucial to their success. After a 28 point performance against Racine Saint Cat’s and a 12 assist game against Martin Luther, the guard showed what she does best this week.
