Games were tight with back and forth action, leaving the crowd on the edge of their seats. Players knocked down clutch shots and played stellar defense this weekend. As teams look to advance to the next round, here are some notable standouts in East Tennessee.
Kierra Leffew (6’0/ Jr./ G/ CAK)– Talented kid who is such an awesome athlete. Dropped 21 points and grabbed 17 boards as her team secured the Region championship. This gym rat is a hard working kid who can score the ball. She’s very instinctive, doing the little things to help propel her team. Look for her to make even more noise as her team goes onto the next round.
Cybil Penland(6’0/ Fr./ W/ Sevier Co.)– Won the District 2AAAA MVP and helped lead her team to back to back district championships bringing in 19 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. She has had such a stellar freshman campaign, where she has burst onto the high school scene. She is a tough and feisty kid who is a go-getter. Multi-level scoring threat who contributes in multiple facets of the game. Look for her to continue on an upwards trajectory throughout her HS career.
Peytyn Oliver Peytyn Oliver 5'4" | PG McMinn Co. | 2023 State TN (5’4/ Jr./ PG/ McMinn Co.)– Dropped 35 points in her club’s win over Cleveland High. Had 18 consecutive free throws. Scrappy PG who just plays the game hard and does it the right way. Floor general who can score the rock but also make timely assists. Heady player who plays hard nose defense.
Emily Mustard (5’10/ Jr./ PF/ Anderson Co.)– Dropped 18 pts in her team’s win on Friday night. A mid-range threat who contributes on both ends of the floor. Displays a nice game inside the arc, but relishes on helping her club on the defensive end as well. Coming into her own will be a big reason why her team will continue on an upward trend as they advance throughout the tournament.
Kali McMahan (6’1/ Sr./ PF/ Jefferson Co.)– The Carson-Newman commit is a beast inside the arc. Knocking down high percentage shots along with a nice mid-range game, Kali fuels the JC attack. Winning District MVP honors, Kali is a big anchor in the Lady Pats game plan. She had a game high 24 points this past weekend.
