With nearly 90 participants, the playing field was sorted into teams who played a 4 game round robin style tournament.
Here is a list of Standout Players from the BTH Showcase:
Cipriana Garcia, Escelante HS, Tierra Amarillo, 5’5” Guard 2023
Garcia is a savvy lefty who can score at different levels on the offensive end depending on what the defense gives her – She is Capable of both hitting the 3 ball, and finishing in the paint area – The Junior is a consistent shooter that hits multiple 3s with good rotation on her shot. Garcia also has soft touch in the lane with floaters over taller defenders either during an offensive set or in transition. On the other end of the floor, Garcia communicates well on defense and is constantly identifying her matchup and calling out screens.
Alexis Sandoval Alexis Sandoval 5'5" | PG Goddard | 2022 State NM , Goddard HS, Roswell, 5’5” Guard 2022
Sandoval is a knock down shooter with good form and shooting motion. She can make 3s from multiple spots and does so at a high clip. Sandoval placed 3rd the night before in the 3pt contest making 12 shots in sixty seconds and continued to shoot well during 5 on 5s making as many as five triples in two of her games. The Senior guard has good fundamentals in her footwork and does a very nice job of keeping her hands in the shooting pocket.
Juliana Aragon Juliana Aragon 5'5" | PG Bernalillo | 2022 State NM , Bernalillo HS, Bernalillo, 5’5” Guard 2022
Aragon is a crafty lefty that can do multiple things on the offensive end. The senior guard operates very well utilizing the pick’n’roll with her good decision making. “Getting my big involved, If I can dish it and get my big an open opportunity, that’s the part of my game I love most,” says Aragon. She can deliver the pocket pass to the rolling screener or pass over the top of the hedge and can also score off the dribble. Aragon has a good layup package in the lane and can hit the step back jumper as well with good balance and separation.
Leilani Love Leilani Love 6'1" | C Albuquerque | 2023 State NM , Albuquerque HS, Albuquerque, 6’1” Forward 2023
Love was one of, if not the most athletic participant at the BTH Showcase. The Junior forward has the ability to go coast to coast, clearing a defensive rebound and taking it for a transition layup using a nice euro-step or change of pace. Love is without a doubt comfortable operating inside of 10 feet of the basket using either hand but did show the ability to stretch her shot to 18 feet with a turn around jump shot while being contested. Love has good length and timing that can cause opposing players to take difficult shots.
Lila Ashida Lila Ashida 5'8" | SG Las Cruces | 2023 State NM , Las Cruces HS, Las Cruces, 5’7” Forward 2023
Ashida is an all-around wing that can affect the game in multiple ways on either end of the floor. Ashida, “wants to take stress off her teammates and make sure they have help.” The Junior is a willing passer but don’t mistake, she can shoot the 3 ball, finish inside the paint and can knock down free throws. More importantly she is a solid help side defender that creates constant pressure leading to multiple steals and deflections with her active hands.
