Continue ReadingThe FHSAA State Tournament took place from Wednesday the 23rd until Saturday the 26th in Lakeland at the RP Funding Center. In Game One, St. Thomas Aquinas started to pull away from Nease in the second quarter and took the semifinal win 63-45. Game Two was all Wekiva as Bloomingdale couldn’t knock down many shots with a final score of 57-29. The State Championship was pretty competitive as both of these teams met last year in the State Championship, and STA got the best of Wekiva again as they became back-to-back State Champs by a score of 59-45. Here were the top players who showed out in Class 6A on the big stage:
Karina Gordon Karina Gordon 5'8" | CG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State FL | St. Thomas Aquinas – MVP
Karina was the most consistent player for both games in the 6A bracket. She had 19 points in the semifinal to go with 5 steals. Her defensive pressure caused chaos for guards in both games. She rebounded the ball well in the State Title game with 7 boards and added 11 points. Karina was able to get to the hoop by using her athleticism and her long frame. The 2023 guard hit a couple big 3’s in each game on a team that showed a lot of energy and has weapons in their frontcourt and backcourt.
Alancia Ramsey Alancia Ramsey 6'0" | PF St Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State FL | St. Thomas Aquinas
Alancia is one of those frontcourt weapons I mentioned. Her wingspan, athleticism, and soft touch make her one of the best posts in the state. She averaged 9.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in Lakeland, but her presence inside doesn’t get shown on the stat sheets. Between her and Karina, they make up a top tier frontcourt/backcourt duo in Florida’s 2023 class.
Breanna Gustave Breanna Gustave 5'7" | CG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2022 State FL | St. Thomas Aquinas
Big game Bre was definitely the MVP of the State Championship. Game one wasn’t her best shooting game, but she still managed to impact the game by leading the team with 4 assists and playing hard on defense. She absolutely balled out in the State Title game with 23 points on over 50% shooting with 9 boards to barely miss an impressive double double. Breanna consistently made some really tough shots in every single quarter and helped put Wekiva away in the second half.
Jada Green Jada Green 6'0" | PF St. Thomas Aquinas | 2022 State FL | St. Thomas Aquinas
Jada nearly snagged a double double in the first round win with 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals. The Richmond commit has a tremendous frame with size, strength, and good length. She controlled the boards all week and made some really nice buckets around the rim by finishing through contact.
Jada Eads Jada Eads 5'6" | PG Lake Highland Prep | 2024 State FL | Wekiva
If Wekiva would have won the ship, Jada is your 6A MVP. She put up 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals in 25 minutes against Bloomingdale with some deep treys and an impressive pull-up jumper. In the State Title game, she finished with 23 points, but STA did a good job of making her take some difficult shots with their defensive prowess. Jada is undoubtedly a top guard in the 2024 class.
Rylan Moffitt | Wekiva
Rylan is a tough player with a really strong frame that uses that size on both ends of the court. Against Bloomingdale, she had a double double of 14 points and 11 rebounds in a dominant effort. She followed up that game with another 11 rebound game against STA in the title game. Rylan does a fantastic job of using her strong lower body to box out and post up down low to control the paint.
Joline Raposo Joline Raposo 5'3" | PG Bloomingdale | 2022 State FL | Bloomingdale
Jojo is the Energizer Bunny who doesn’t run out of battery power. Bloomingdale had their worst shooting game of the season, but she was able to show some life with 13 points, 6 boards, and 4 steals. She has a lot of speed and can elevate in a hurry on her jumper.
Allison Fifield | Nease
Nease needed someone to step up when Sydney Gomes Sydney Gomes 5'9" | SG Nease | 2022 State FL went down with an injury early in the second quarter, so it was Allison and Camryn Robinson Camryn Robinson SG Nease | 2022 State FL who tried to step up to the plate. Allison went 2 for 3 from long range and had 13 points and 9 rebounds by crashing the glass on both ends of the floor.
