With our updates, we like to go more in-depth on players, and in this article, we’ll be starting our positional breakdowns for the 2022 class. That being said, here are the top five point guards on our updated list.
1. Paulina Paris Paulina Paris 5'9" | PG Saddle River Day | 2022 State NJ – 5-9, Saddle River Day
We can’t sing the praises of Paris enough as she’s really stepped up her game this season and will be quite the threat once she gets to North Carolina in the fall. There’s something different about her game, watching her get that extra step on a defender or have that split-second faster reaction time to make something happen on the floor. Paris is one of the best pure scorers in the nation and couples that with an excellent defensive makeup as a player. We’re excited to see what the summer AAU season holds for her.
3. Madison St. Rose Madison St. Rose 5'10" | PG St. John Vianney | 2022 State #65 Nation NJ – 5-10, St. John Vianney
St. Rose without a doubt is going to be a three-time NJ dot com Player of the Year winner after putting on a show this season for the 32-1 Lady Lancers. Her skillset has morphed well over the years and her maturity has reached a peak this season in particular. She can shoot from really anywhere on the floor and has great court vision and awareness to make the extra pass or find a lane to weave through to get to the basket. Her college career at Princeton is destined to be a successful one.
6. Saniah Caldwell Saniah Caldwell 5'8" | PG Saddle River Day | 2022 State #52 Nation NJ – 5-8, Saddle River Day
Caldwell ended up missing the entire 2021-22 season rehabbing from injury, but her first three years at Saddle River Day were quite the three-year stretch for any player to play in the Garden State. A natural 20-point scorer, Caldwell is an effective three-point shooter who can also score in traffic and create contact to get to the foul line. She’s an active player on the defensive side of the ball, someone who can get clutch rebounds and cause key turnovers from pass deflections and steals.
10. Erika Mercedes Erika Mercedes 5'7" | PG Union City | 2022 State NJ – 5-10, Union City
Mercedes is a playmaker, a difference-maker on the floor for Union City and has been their best player for the past several seasons. Despite her size, she’s an aggressive rebounder and has double-double potential, though her averaging somewhere around 5-7 rebounds a game is more of a reasonable future expectation. She’s a player who can be counted on to knock down three-pointers or crash the boards and make her presence felt on the rebounding side of the ball. Her consistency across the board is the biggest reason for her overall success.
16. Brooke Hollawell Brooke Hollawell 5'6" | PG Manasquan | 2022 State NJ – 5-6, Manasquan
The Dartmouth commit rode the success of her spring season as a junior into the fall. She knocked down at least one three-pointer in 30 of her 35 games this season and had 16 games with multiple three-pointers. She’s a solid perimeter shooter who performs best as a spot-up shooter in catch-and-shoot situations. We’re going to be interested to see how she progresses in her game going into college, but based on how she’s been shooting, she’s going to be an Ivy League baller.
