The 2022 Sunshine State Showdown served as a kickoff event to start the spring/summer travel season hosting 120 teams, 183 games, over 900 players, 2,000 fans and crowned 14 champions across eight divisions from 10U all the way to 17U. All weekend players were draining 3s from everywhere on the court. Here are some 2023 Prospects Who Got Hot From 3 At The 2022 SSS!
Madelyn Leslie Madelyn Leslie 5'10" | SG Gulf Coast | 2023 State FL (CP Hoop Dreams Elite 17U) 5’10 Guard/Wing
Leslie is one of the top shooters in Florida. You simply cannot let her get her feet set and catch and shoot from 3 with time. Leslie sets up in the corner and benefited from the penetration and kick from Candace Parker Hoop Dreams Elite 17U quick guard who got into the paint and created wide open 3s for Leslie. Versus FGB Elite 17U Thompson Leslie knocked down FOUR 3-pointers, continuing to showcase how she is one of the top shooters in the state!
Karyzma Pierre Karyzma Pierre 5'11" | SF Oakridge HS | 2023 State FL (FGB Elite 17U Thompson) 5’11 Wing
Pierre is a big guard/wing who can stroke it from 3. Versus Candace Parker Hoop Dreams Elite 17U Pierre knocked down FOUR 3-pointers (all in the 2nd half), leading FGB Elite 17U Thompson from a half time deficit and a big 2nd half, ultimately taking home the win 59-46. Pierre combination of height, athleticism and shooting ability make her an extremely intriguing 2023 prospect who can play multiple positions and is a versatile scorer.
Lexi Pizarro Lexi Pizarro 5'5" | PG Sickles | 2023 State FL (Tampa Thunder Select 2023) 5’5 Guard
Pizarro lit it up versus Essence Black 17U at the 2022 Sunshine State Showdown knocking down FOUR 3-pointers in Tampa Thunder Select 2023 opening game on Saturday. She was the game’s high scorer but ultimately could not lead her team to the win as they fell in a back-and-forth battle 47-45. At 5’5, she can play the PG and SG position, she is best off the ball, setting up on the wing and corner and letting it fly from 3!
Iris Roman (ECEDAO) 5’8 Guard
Roman was one of the top performers for ECEDAO, who came to Florida from Puerto Rico for the week. Friday night matchup was a battle of supremacy, matching up ECEDAO versus Cocteras de Loiza (who also hails from Puerto Rico). Roman was bright spot all week, consistently pacing ECEDAO in scoring. Friday night she finished with 14 points, including FOUR 3-pointers. She is a skilled guard, who has range from the 3, and a good overall offensive skill set. When opponents took away her shot, she did a good job putting it to the floor, creating open shots for her teammates and selflessly distributing the ball.
Zoe Wortinger Zoe Wortinger 5'7" | CG Avon Park | 2023 State FL (ECU Family 2023) 5’9 Guard
Wortinger was fun to watch all weekend as she displayed a strong overall offensive skill set. In ECU Family 2023 opening game of the event, they faced versus a tough Essence Purple 17U EYBL squad that was potentially one of the games of the event. Wortinger made FOUR 3-pointers on her way to 15 points but ultimately ECU fell 46-43 in a hard-fought battle. Wortinger was Avon Park’s leading scorer throughout the high school season averaging over 15 points per game but mainly relied on attacking the rim and her mid-range game. Her ability to make 3s should really open up her floor game and set her up for a potentially huge spring/summer with ECU Family!
