Continue ReadingI don’t go that far from Texas anymore and if you’re wondering how I can make statements regarding players without actually being all over the country, it’s simple, because I know where the bar was set many years ago and I’m not a novice at this so to say I saw some very impressive new faces over the weekend on the outskirts of Chicago would only tell part of the story as I also saw some players I had already seen elevate their games. I’m also dropping a Second Team All-Tournament from this division, more standouts from 16U as well as a 2025/2026 combination from 15U/16U, stay tuned
Taylor Spencer-5’8 PG (Cleveland HS) Houston Lady Nets 2024
Spencer For Hire, wait I’ve already used that yet this Spencer just keeps entertaining and amazing me, and here’s why I love things you can’t teach and her “cat-like” instincts are definitely one of them because she covers the court as good as any player I’ve seen on any platform in this era and the thing about her playing the passing lane, diving on the floor for loose balls as well as being vocal all fall into one of my favorite hashtags, #THROWBACK and even though she can change the momentum of a game on the defensive end, she can also “Just Do It” on the offensive end as she elevates on her jumper, mid to long-range, as well, as well as elevated over defenders to score off the dribble using excellent body control and finishing after the lick
Sania Jenkins-6’0 SF (Narrabeen Sports Academy) P.L.U.T.O. Prospects 2024
Jenkins immediately had me get up to find out who she was, I seldom do that yet I also knew what I was looking at as she understood how to take a game over offensively. She has a very nice first step, her strides are long and she stays under control, both in the set and the open court, and watching her acrobatic finishes probably was the main reason I found out her name. She also dropped the midrange yet her rebounding and playing the passing lane “Just Did It” for me on this platform
Kaylie Carr Kaylie Carr 5'10" | PG Legion Prep Academy | 2025 State TX -5’9 SG (WT White HS) Team Stay Ready 2024 [2025]
Carr’s gauge never left full because she falls into one of those “never takes a play-off” type of players which also gives her my #THROWBACK hashtag and the more I watched her, caught her 3 times, the more I was impressed because that first step is so explosive, it’s like she adds that turbo boost to blow by defenders. She finishes after contact but she also does a good job playing “on the ball defense” but let me flip-flop back to her pull-up jumper, it’s smooth and consistent but her upside is very scary
Addison Price-5’4 SG (Broken Arrow Freshman Academy) 2025
Price does so many things I like, yeah she can shoot the ball from mid to long-range as well as score off the dribble yet her ability to run a team just stood out because the game starts at the 1. She sees the floor very well, she understands how to direct traffic plus she’s vocal on the court and to top all of that off, she handles the ball under pressure as well as wants it during crunch time so to say her upside is nice would be accurate
McKenzie Mathurin McKenzie Mathurin 5'10" | CG Broken Arrow | 2025 State OK -5’10 PG (Broken Arrow HS) Oklahoma Swift 2024 Mathurin [2025]
Mathurin had me stop taking written notes last season after she showed the “mental” part of the game because she was punished by the defense with tough hits on her way to the basket yet that showed me what was coming. With double-digit D1 offers in her freshman season, I also see where it is going because this platform gave her, even more, looks from colleges watching her ability to score at Will and showing she could do it with Grace. The mid to long-range has always been nice yet her scoring off the dribble with either hand after contact just had me smiling
