The 2022 Sunshine State Showdown hosted teams in the 17U division all the way down to the 10U division. It was fun to see some of the younger players in 10U division (4thgrade) and the 11U division (5thgrade) competing hard and having fun. In some cases, some of the teams had players in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade as there are not many opportunities for the younger players to play in tournaments. The 10U division welcomed five teams (CFE 10U, Inspir8tion Basketball 4th, Miami Suns 10U, New Wave Basketball 10U, and Valor Girls Basketball 10U) while the 11U division welcomed six teams (CFE 11U, Inspir8tion Basketball 5th, Jupiter Jaguars 5th, Outsiders 4/5th, Tampa Bay Kings 2029, Tampa Thunder 2029/30, TNBA South 2029. Here are some of the top individual players in the 10U and 11U division that stood out with their scoring ability.
Amari Davis (TNBA South 2029) – Class of 2029
Davis dropped a team high 14 Points (11 in the 2nd half versus Tampa Thunder in Saturday’s matchup. With points at a premium in the 11U division with many games being in the teens, 20s, or low 30s Davis was TNBA South 2029 leading scorer in all 3 games and was one of the top young players that stood out in the 11U division due to her ability to score the basketball.
Kiera Willis (Outsiders 4th/5th) – Class of 2029
Willis impressively scored in double digits in all three of her team’s game, leading them to a perfect 3-0 record and the 11U Championship. With her team defeating Tampa Thunder 31-15, TNBA South 2029 36-12, and CFE 11U 30-20, Willis scoring 10+ points in all 3 games was even more impressive as she essentially accounted for one third of her teams points. Willis just a fifth grader, will definitely be a young player that will be fun to watch her progression as she gets bigger, stronger, and continues to develop her skills!
Riley Wilkerson (Miami Suns 10U) – Class of 2030
The Miami Suns 10U won all three of their games on Sunday, claiming the 10U Championship by defeating Inspir8tion 4th 31-19 in the finals. Wilkerson was an offensive juggernaut all weekend including a 15 point performance in the championship game, accounting for half of her teams points. The young player has a mature offensive skill for her age, showcasing excellent handle, solid shooting ability and the ability to penetrate to the rim off the dribble and finish well in the paint!
Zabrina Underwood (Inspir8tion 4th) – Class of 2030
Inspiration 4th got contributions from a number of players throughout the weekend in their four games but Underwood was one of the players that really stood out. The feisty guard played hard on both the offensive and defensive end and did an excellent job putting the ball to the floor and going by her defender off the bounce!
